Player Reports: Del Campo vs McClatchy

Bryan Moreno
Northern California Associate Scout

A number of quality players stood out in a recent game between Sac-Joaquin Section schools Del Campo HS (Fair Oaks, CA) and McClatchy HS (Sacramento). Three of them are 2018’s headed to D1 programs in the fall, while a couple of uncommitted juniors and one very athletic 2018 outfielder (uncommitted) were also noticed. Players listed in no particular order. Be sure to click on the players' names for the full scouting profile, including the full report.

Jeffrey Jamison SS / Del Campo, CA / 2018

Fresno State signee, Jamison is an outstanding defensive shortstop and one who sure looks like he can stay there beyond high school.  He plays sound defense but also has the actions and natural flair that draw eyes to him. Offensively he is a plus runner with excellent basestealing instincts, with a disciplined approach at the plate but an aggressive nature within his approach.

Jack Hinrichsen RHP / McClatchy, CA / 2018

A Cal commit, Hinrichsen has a lean and muscular build with a loose arm and delivery. He creates some deception during the backside arm action of his delivery, making it difficult for hitters to pick up his release point. His fastball was in the mid-80s with lots of late run into right-handed hitters. His breaking ball was 74-75 and was set up well with his fastball.

Jack Filby SS/C / McClatchy, CA / 2018

One of the more versatile players in the area, Filby is a UCLA signee with infield and catcher talents that should give him a chance to play earlier rather than later in college. His agility and footwork stand out for the middle of the diamond and as a catcher. Confidence and competitiveness stand out with Filby. Offensively he’s a line drive gap-to-gap hitter with strong hands and the ball jumps off his bat.

David Joseph OF / Del Campo, CA / 2018

Uncommitted outfielder, Joseph is quickly noticeable with his body type that suggests he’s a football player (which he is). He showed the speed to cover centerfield from gap to gap and he competed with a style of play and aggressiveness often found in baseball playing football kids. There is raw power in all he does on a ballfield and in time, the tools have legitimate chance to play.

Sam Hayden 3B / Del Campo, CA / 2019

Hayden is a well-proportioned 3rd baseman with size and strength in both his lower body and shoulders. He got good feet and showed agility and nimbleness on defense. His throws carried across the diamond and left his hand quite easily. He plays with a calm pace and seemed to be able to slow the game down. Offensively he’s got easy bat speed, a focused approach and showed some opposite field pop.

Hudson Kaylor RHP / Del Campo, CA / 2019

Certainly noticeable with a 6-foot-3 180-pound body, Kaylor also has plenty of room within that frame to continue to add size and strength. He’s an efficient pitcher with feel of four pitches and as he gains that size and strength and adds some mph to the fastball, his stuff will play up. He’s a heady pitcher with awareness of the running game and showed that by varying his tempo.
