PBR California Preseason Invitational: All Tournament Team

Noah Williams OF / OF / Redondo Union , CA / 2022

Williams continues to remain one of the top uncommitted players in the 2022 class thanks in part to his ability to track balls in the outfield and his present and projectable abilities at the plate. A natural righty that also hits lefty, Williams projects natural power from the left side as shown with his triple in the last game. An electric runner, Williams oozes projection on a large, athletic frame. For the tournament Williams hit .363/R/3 RBI/BB. 

Austin Overn OF / Foothill, CA / 2022

After a solid start in the opener against Harvard Westlake and a pair of middling performances the next two games, Overn took over in the fourth game going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. He also stole three bases flashing the run tool that makes him such a desirable prospect for the MLB Draft in the summer. For the tournament Overn finished hitting .400/R/4 RBI/4 SB. 

Ethan Nunez OF / 2B / Ayala, CA / 2023

Luke Scherrer C / RHP / Yucaipa, CA / 2023

Scherrer has developed into one of the premier hitters in his class thanks in large part to his burgeoning power and the ability to punish mistakes. There’s quickness and power to all fields in the bat that is beginning to show the type of consistency that you see in highly scouted players. As far as hitters go, Luke Scherrer is most certainly the conversation in his class. Scherrer hit .385/3 R/3 RBI/3 BB with a home run. 

Bryce Rainer SS / RHP / Harvard Westlake, CA / 2024

Rainer has shown that the 15 pounds he’s added since last year are not slowing him down a bit. The added strength has turned the blooper over the second baseman’s head that we saw last year into the line drive into the RCF gap. He has shown the ability to hit elite pitching and that continued in the tournament as Harvard Westlake faced at minimum five Division I commits. 

Mikey Romero SS / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2022

Romero showed once again that his bat is a premium tool but it was his run tool and his defense that has everyone’s attention. Romero had two big triples, one a 3 RBI bases clearer to break a game open, and another that ignited a rally en route to a blowout. The arm strength and what he’s shown defensively in the early goings has begun to hush the questions about his ability to stay at shortstop in pro ball. Romero hit .385/3 R/3 RBI/2 BB for the tourney. 

Brady Schrank SS / 2B / Foothill, CA / 2022

As far as offensive performances go, there weren’t many, if any, better than Schrank’s. The Hawaii commit was a consistent and potent cog in the Foothill lineup whether it was the clutch hit or the important walk to get a guy on, Schrank did it for the Knights. If there were an offensive MVP for the tournament, he would undoubtedly be at the top of the list. For the tournament Schrank hit .700/4 RBI/2 R/5 BB.

Gabriel Miranda 1B / LHP / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2022

Perhaps no player proved more during the tournament than Miranda who answered questions with his stellar performances with the bat including a 4-for-4 night in the championship game. His defense is about as good as it gets on any level and he’s begging to answer a lot of questions about the bat. The power in the left handed stroke has proven itself to be very real. Miranda hit .461/4 R/5 RBI including a home run at night at Hart Park to right center field.

Josh Springer C / 3B / Corona, CA / 2024

Springer has shown himself to be one of the premier bats in all of California in the 2024 class with power to all fields and speed that is not typical of a catcher. And oh by the way he’s an outstanding defensive catcher with arm strength to spare and quickness of a player not of his size. Had multi-hit games in every game the Panthers played in, narrowly missing home runs in a couple. Added several multiple base hits with at least one triple. 

Oliver Santos LHP / 1B / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2022

The Duke commit was light out against Gahr and Huntington Beach racking up 13 strikeouts over six innings of shutout, one hit ball with a single walk charged to him. The 6’4” 210 pound Santos has clearly cemented himself as one the premier draft eligible high school arms in SoCal thanks to his repertoire, demeanor, and projection.

Ethan Schiefelbein 1B / LHP / Corona , CA / 2024

The lefty carved in his two outings going four shutout against Chaminade in his first start and five two-hit innings in his second against Alemany. The UCLA commit racked up nine strikeouts along the way. He did all of this while hitting at a high level in a loaded lineup. He’s a definite hitter at the high school level as the power is beginning to rear itself a bit more, but it’s hard to not see him on the mound and see the projection oozing from him.

Thomas Bridges SS / RHP / Harvard Westlake, CA / 2024

Bridges started two of Harvard Westlake’s three wins and did everything from maintain a lead to looking unhittable in each. Bridges allowed two runs over 10 innings to Foothill and JSerra, collecting eight strikeouts. The uncommitted sophomore has shown to be an 85-87 mph fastball guy with utter and complete command of a 74-77 mph slider that is amongst the best in any class.

Andrew Parker 2B / RHP / Foothill, CA / 2023

Parker dazzled on the mound for Foothill in games against Capo Valley and Chaminade. The righty allowed two run over 13 innings in his two wins in the tournament by pounding the strike zone and forcing weak contact. Shows command of a three pitch mix that keeps hitters guessing and makes for uncomfortable at bats.
