LATHROP, CALIF. - This summer and fall, Prep Baseball Report events across the country have been powered by TrackMan’s industry-leading portable system to capture pinpoint accurate, actionable data from player performances. Prep Baseball Report and TrackMan are dedicated to recognizing talent and unleashing their potential.
At the ProCase Preview, all pitchers had a chance to throw live while being monitored through our portable Trackman B1 unit. Each player threw their complete arsenal of pitches allowing us to collect metrics such as release velocity, spin rate, vertical & horizontal movement and much more.
This data goes directly into the player profiles allowing the PBR Staff, college coaches and professional scouts alike to evaluate and compare prospects on a national scale.
The event featured 2022 players and one 2023 pitcher, with the TrackMan system breaking down each pitch thrown during their bullpen session and now, we dive into the advanced metrics gathered at the event.
Spin Rate is defined as how fast the ball is spinning as it leaves the pitcher's hand, measured in "Revolutions per Minute or RPM"
Bauer Units = Spin Rate (RPM) / Velocity (MPH)
Driveline Baseball on Bauer Units: Bauer Units are intended to control for velocity when looking at spin rate. The equation was intended to be simple enough for coaches and players to use quickly in practice to compare pitchers to MLB average.
