NorCal Player of the Week: Craig Yanagihara

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - Each week we get many nominations from coaches and there are a plethora of standout performers each week. There are multiple home run games and weeks, near-perfect hitting weeks, no-hitters, and some aircraft carrier type performers. It is never easy to choose a singular player for the honor and frankly, with all the options we have each week, we can't go wrong. This week the honor came down to a 17 strikeout performance from 2023 LHP Craig Yanagihara of Redwood Christian HS and 2026 OF Cohen Garcia of Novato HS who hit three home runs in two games while driving in 10 runs.

This week we have chosen to honor senior left-hander Craig Yanagihara of Redwood Christian HS as the NorCal Player of the Week (March 13-18).

Yanagihara, committed to Fresno Pacific, got the start on Friday vs Castro Valley and did he ever have a day! Over his six innings pitched he struck out 17 batters, while giving up a pair of hits, walking two batters and allowing two runs (one earned) as RCHS won the game 3-2. Anytime a pitcher strikes out double digit hitters it is a noteworthy achievement. To set down 17 hitters via the K is an achievement we don't see all too often.

Simply send weekly details/stats into our scouting staff by Monday and look for our Diamond Notes article that will highlight top performers who weren't selected for Player of the Week but are deserving of recognition.

The more information you give us, the better... name, position, grad year, B/T, height/weight, college commitment (if applicable), along with the weekly stats. Please also include anything notable, such as the caliber of competition the player faced, the game circumstances that were affected, etc.
