N. California Preseason All-State: Corner Infielder Analysis

STOCKTON, CA - Today we take a look at the corner infielders from the Northern California Preseason All-State event, held at San Joaquin Delta College on Sunday, January 27th. We have already posted a Quick Hits on some standouts from the event. Additionally, Player Stats, Pitchers, Catchers, Outfielders, and Middle Infielders are also available for review.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - San Diego State commit. XL frame that is long with lean muscle and rounded shoulder; plenty of projection still available for the frame and body type. Strong inline runner using good stride length to get moving quickly (7.29 60-yd). Slightly opened, crouched stance with high back elbow keeping hands above the back shoulder; slight knee tuck as hands show short load back. Smooth, controlled swing working on upward path with late bat speed through the zone showing full extension as he drives through contact; creates easy leverage on the ball finishing high on shoulder with loud contact as ball jumps off bat deep into gaps and the pullside (91 exit velo). Super athletic around the bag with confidence in his glove skills and ability to make plays on the move; very big target at first giving infielders a great target to throw to. Arm is compact and able to shift angles based on positioning; can make all the throws needed with more there when needing to get rid of the ball (78 MPH). One of our Top 2019 players still projects growth with a high ceiling available.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Full, large frame with length and thickness in lower half; lean over feet showing inline stride (7.65 60-yd). Tall and narrow, open stance showing good posture with high hands and high back elow; knee tuck as hands pull down and back with good balance in back hip through load. Swing flashes quickness with short, compact stroke that has high finish through the ball; gap power that flashes more when getting better extension on his swing (85 exit velo). Clean footwork with high hips and glove out front; hips show fluidity and able to open up and move side-to-side with good actions for 3B. Compact, loose arm with plenty of strength and ease on throws showing life and carry (82 MPH). A projectable 2020 who also showed two-way skills on the mound.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Large frame showing wide shoulders and a lean lower half with length; projectable strength with the shape of the frame. Scissoring feet with inline stride showing controlled effort (7.44 60-yd). Tall stance with balance keeping high hands and elbows; simple step allowing weight to transfer into back hip as hands work up and back. Quick and compact swing keeping hands inside the ball and driving through contact; level bat path showing strong balance in swing. Regularly worked gap-to-gap with the ability to backspin the ball for more future carry (83 exit velo). Controlled footwork with ability to create angles and beat the ball to it’s spot; fluid with soft hands feeding ball to throwing arm with ease. Quick arm gets to high release from compact swing showing carry and online throws (78 MPH). Projectable 2020 could fit at multiple infield positions.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Full large frame with wide chest and strength throughout the frame. Controlled runner with fluid, athletic stride showing quick run time (7.19 60-yd). Wide balanced stance with high even hands and wide elbows; full body into back hip as he sinks into lower half pulling the hands down and back. Quick, level swing that gets full extension driving through the ball and making hard contact in front of the plate; swings with authority while finishing in a balanced position and driving balls to gaps with leverage (91 exit velo). Controlled feet with strong first step and loose hips able to drop and move quickly; glove is soft and able to transfer to throwing hand under control. Arm shows controlled length with wider swing before high release (76 MPH). Projectable 2021 that shows middle infielder reads and ability to be hybrid infielder at 3B.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Large frame that is very long and lean; plenty of space for strength and projection as he matures. Long, fluid and wide stride (7.81 60-yd). Open, relaxed stance with hands and bat on back shoulder; bat lifts up and back with front knee lift starting to tuck back arm early into swing. Swing shows uphill path with ability to be on time and drive balls into pullside gap; drives through stiff front leg and projects more power at full maturity (75 exit velo). Very flexible and agile around the bag getting out and picking balls with soft glove; uses long frame well in receiving the ball and feet play wide outside the body with strong movement at the position. Arm shows length, but able to adjust for shorter actions when needing to get rid of the ball and out of ear release (73 MPH).

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Medium frame with width and thickness in upper half of body. Inline runner with heavier feet. Relaxed open stance with even hands bouncing bat off shoulder; steps close as hands move back slightly. Short, compact stroke keeping hands tight to the body and producing quick turns; level bat works with firm wrists driving balls to the pull side and flashing some more gap drives that way (77 exit velo). Wide feet at 1st with short choppy steps; compact arm gets rid of the ball quickly from high release (73 MPH). Competed as a two-way player during the event.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Small frame with sloping shoulders showing width in frame; full effort runner with short stride (8.28 60-yd). Balanced stance showing slight bend in the knees keeping a high back elbow with even hands at back shoulder; rocks into back hip with big knee kick as hands sink a bit into back shoulder. Hands stay tight in direct swing with oppo approach; uses his lower body well in the swing with flashes of ability to drive through the ball (74 exit velo). Wide hips with low glove; gives low target at first with some stab picks on ball in dirt. Quick to ear with compact release (71 MPH); builds momentum into his throws getting use of lower half.

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Wide medium frame with thick, muscular upper half; inline runner gets feet moving very quickly with little effort (6.82 60-yd). Tall, balanced stance with hands low in back shoulder and relaxed elbows; hands load up and back into shoulder on quick step. Direct swing with short, pullside approach finish high in back shoulder; stayed in LCF gap. Wide feet showing high hips and a late glove; comfort around the bag with good footwork when receiving. Compact, high release; gets body into throws and keeps it around bag (67 MPH).

Scouting Report
1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Full, XL frame with length in legs and wide build; still has some young weight that could be shaped over the next couple of years. Short, choppy steps (7.51 60-yd). Tall, balanced stance with high back elbow and high hands to match; keeps strong posture as he pulls hands down and back with slight foot lift load. Balanced and calm in load staying behind the baseball well; swing has explosive qualities with natural lift in bat path that regularly showed pop to the pull side with deep drives creating loud contact (88 exit velo). Big frame moves well around the bag with ability to handle the ball in the dirt; showed good footwork and ability to adjust to balls offline. Quick arm from mid ¾ with ability to throw from different angles; strong arm that also pitches at the high school level (83 MPH). Continues to show why he’s one of the top 2021 players in the state that will be the type of bat to hit for power in the middle of lineups at next level.
