Game Notes: Marin Catholic at Cardinal Newman

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

SANTA ROSA, CA – In a 12-inning scrimmage interrupted by a short rain delay, Marin Catholic (#19 Preseason Power 25) and Cardinal Newman squared off in an entertaining game highlighted by a chance to see 5 D1 commits and a few other players will get their shot at the D1 level. For those keeping score of the 12-inning affair, Newman won 6-3. The best player today among those D1 commits was 2019 Marin Catholic catcher Jay Tarkenton (Old Dominion commit) and teammate 2019 RHP Vaughn Mauterer was quite good as well, but it was the extended looks at 2021 Cardinal Newman C/OF Shane Moran and MCHS 2020 LHP/OF Max Manning that really made the day.

Inside are scouting notes (with video) and game notes on a baker's dozen players, plenty of whom are still uncommitted. College program and you don't have a subscription? Now seems like a good time to get one.

Manning wasn't on for a long outing, but he sure looked good (T85), particularly in this at-bat vs Moran, who also had a day that shed more light on who he is now and could be down the road.
