Just Missed 2023 Position Players
May 21, 2020
With the loss of the spring season throughout the country, nearly all players missed out on the opportunity to showcase their skills with their high school teams. The release of PBR’s2023 Overall Rankings, which expanded to include 300 players from all over the country, was packed with highly talented players, but there were still many more ready to make an impact once play picks up again. Below are just some of the players that possess impressive upside, and will likely emerge quickly as players that college coaches will want to be following.
Finley Bates SS / 3B / Douglas County, CO / 2023Bates’ workman-type approach to the game helps his already impressive tools play up even higher. Still maturing physically at 5-foot-8, 145-pounds, the right-handed hitting infielder possesses quick hands at the plate with some whip to the barrel. Squaring with a toe-tap the rocks the hands down and back, Bates is able to gain ground through impact as his barrel showcases some lag on a flat path. There is some present gap-strength to the pull side, and he demonstrates feel for hitting line drives to all fields. Moving athletically at shortstop, quality footwork allows him to get to most balls, and his arm (81 mph across) is likely to continue adding strength moving forward. More than anything, Bates has the look of a player that college coaches are going to want in their programs, and his push to get better will likely aid in quick advancements over the next few years.
