LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2022 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.
It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.
And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.
Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers, catchers, first baseman and shortstops. Now it's time for a few of the top ranked first baseman in the state for 2022 class. You can read full available scouting reports and view available video by clicking on the player name.

THE PLAYERS
#29 LUCAS KELLY - SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL - UNCOMMITTED
The top ranked third baseman in the 2022 class possesses physical tools that project well for his ability to develop into a power hitting and strong armed third baseman. Twitchy for his size at the plate coupled with a compact swing shows his current and future power potential. Defensively takes big strides enabling him to cover ground laterally coupled with good feel for timing and rhythm through the baseball. Arm strength is present with a consistent 82 mph infield velocity and the ability to make throws from different arm angles. One of the top 2022 uncommitted players in California with a physical tool set that he is beginning to tap into.
#32 JACOB REIMER - YUCAIPA - CAL STATE FULLERTON COMMIT
One of the more polished players in the 2022 class fits the Fullerton mold with a blue collar skill set and between the ears maturity. Very consistent hitter that shows a knack for finding the barrel with every swing he takes. Shows gap-to-gap ability and is able to put the ball in play when needed. Mature defensive actions with no glaring holes making him a reliable infielder but lacks a plus-defensive tool. Confident player that makes his presence felt on the field who plays with a quiet intensity that will help drive him up the depth chart sooner rather than later.
#46 RYAN RIVERA - ST. AUGUSTINE - SAN DIEGO COMMIT
Projectable player with a short compact swing which highlights his game and gives him a high offensive ceiling. High contact hitter with good pitch recognition allows for a high rate of quality at-bats. Defensively possess soft hands and good footwork making him a versatile infielder that could also play second base. Flashes some power and has a lot of physical projection remaining. Shows similar traits and feel on the field to former San Diego infielder and current Kansas City minor leaguer Brhet Bewley.
#70 ARMANDO BRISENO - ETIWANDA - LONG BEACH STATE
Talented player with a noticeable skill set who is on his way to make a name for himself. Briseno’s small sample size of high school in-game success, standout performance at the 2020 preseason all-state workout and early commitment to Long Beach State highlight his resume. Exhibits natural pull ability and looks comfortable in doing so. Shows ability to hit the ball the other way but not as advanced as his pull side ability. Slick fielder with proper technique with clean actions throughout. One of the stronger infield arms in his class with an 89 mph velocity reading across the diamond. Name to watch now and down the line.
