LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2022 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers and catchers. Now it's time for a few of the top ranked first baseman in the state for 2022 class. You can read full available scouting reports and view available video by clicking on the player name.

THE PLAYERS

#27 JACK PEDERSEN - VISTA MURRIETA - UNCOMMITTED

Standing at six-foot-4 205 pounds, the power right-handed hitting Jack Pedersen is the highest ranked first baseman in California and fourth ranked nationally. Offensively shows a quick swing plane through the zone enabling him to make consistent loud contact. Simple approach at the plate with very little wasted movement projects well down the line. Handles the bat well and should be able to make quick adjustments to higher velocity. Uncommitted and capable of competing in a power 5 conference line-up.

#39 BRANDON LARSON - ROCKLIN - WASHINGTON COMMIT

Smooth left-handed hitting first baseman with a physical frame that looks the part of a future middle of the order bat. Known for displaying his power in batting practice with multiple home runs, the 6-foot-4 205 pounder shows off his raw power with a natural repeatable swing. Runs fairly well for his position with a 7.39 60 yard dash and shows athleticism for that time to improve. Defensively has shown adequate skills with the ability to stretch and pick. Also has displayed good footwork around the bag and when making throws. The future Husky has the tools to become an option sooner rather than later in the starting lineup.

#66 RYAN GECK - MILLIKAN - LONG BEACH STATE

Athletic and muscular frame at 6-foot-3 230 pounds with room for more. Short and quick bat to ball swing plane shows his effectiveness at the plate and will play well in the Big-West Conference. Little wasted pre-pitch movement allows him to commit to a powerful swing with fluid hip clearance. Shows good fundamentals defensively and will be able to make a quick adjustment to the college game. Arguably has the highest power projection in the class, Geck is a name to watch at the next level.

#84 TREVOR FOX - ST. AUGUSTINE - UNCOMMITTED

One of the tallest players in the entire state regardless of class, the 6-foot-7 197 pound left-hander is an opposing figure on the field with room for more. The shortened 2020 season yielded a good sample size for the uncommitted first baseman as he posted an impressive offensive line: 353 BA 450 OBP 647 SLG 3 2B 1 3B 4 RBI in 20 plate-appearances. Raw projectable skill set that shows lots of potential down the line. Moves fairly well for his size and has shown that he can pitch too. Name to watch down the line.
