Game Notes (CA): Monte Vista at Serra

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

SAN MATEO, CA - Early season cross-section games are always fun to see, particularly when they are between two programs that have the history of Monte Vista and Serra. Monte Vista won the game 3-0, behind stellar team pitching and a big game by uncommitted (really?!?!?) 2019 CF Jake Brandel. Brandel went 2-for-3 with a booming solo homer in the 3rd and an RBI knock in the 5th. There were a handful of area MLB scouts on hand, primarily to seen Monte Vista's 2019 RHP Josh White (video glimpse below), a Cal signee. They were also getting an early look at his teammate, 2019 SS Tommy Gavello, a Pacific signee (1-for-3, 2B, R). White went 3 innings, gave up a hit, no walks and struck out 4 Serra Padres. The only hitter who seems to see him well was 2021 3B Thomas Gould who had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 (2B, 1B, BB).

Video and notes on the aforementioned players and a few more are available in this report for subscribers. College program and you don't have a subscription? Now seems like a good time to get one.
