PETALUMA, CA - Home game for me and a chance to see some of the best talent in the 2021 and 2022 classes. The home team Petaluma Trojans were a hot topic in our IG chats about the preseason Power 25, but though they are a talented squad, they are young and they have some kinks to work out. Drake won the game 3-0 and weren't really ever threatened by the Petaluma offense, which is expected to be the strength of the team. A big game by Drake 2022 SS Jonas Salk, a mistake on a double play ball by Petaluma, and a couple of other timely knocks was all the Pirates needed to come away with the win.
As mentioned, the 2021 and 2022 classes were well-represented in this game, in addition to Salk the game included Petaluma's 2021 RHP Gavin Ochoa (video), 2021 INF Garett Lewis, 2021 OF Mark Wolbert and 2022 OF/IF Joe Brown. Among 'older' players to take note of: PHS 2020 1B Sam Brown, 2019 C Jack Gallagher and Drake's 2019 C Eamonn Lance (Santa Clara signee) and 2019 1B Isaac Friendenberg.
