Game Notes (CA): St. Mary's at Jesuit

Blaine Clemmens

CARMICHAEL, CA - After getting thumped by De La Salle in their season opener, Jesuit looked to bounce back vs the St. Mary's Rams in their first home game of the season. St. Mary's was the #3 seed in last year's SJS D1 playoffs but they lost a lot of talented senior players. However, they have a nice core of juniors and sophomores who play highly competitive baseball and they made the most of their opportunities in this one, winning 5-2, on the strength of a 4-run 6th inning put together against the hard-throwing Anthony Susac. The big blow was a 2-run double to right by senior pinch-hitter Cal Selna.

Though St. Mary's won the game and they certainly earned it by playing better baseball, it was three Jesuit players that initially drew us to the game, in particular 2021 RHP Tonko Susac (Oregon State), 2020 RHP Andy Owen (Cal), and C Daniel Susac (Oregon State). Video/reports on those three Jesuit players, plus Nico Gomez, Ryan Werner, and Angelo Genetti of St. Mary's plus notes on a few other players from both teams.
