Game Notes (CA): Alameda at Northgate

WALNUT CREEK, CA - On an overcast and chilly day the Northgate Broncos hosted the Alameda Hornets, the defending NCS-D2 champions. This game turned out to be quite the pitchers duel. After a scoreless top of the first inning by Northgate starter ’20 RHP Evan Tomlinson, the Broncos started quickly in the bottom half of the first inning, as the Broncos leadoff hitter banged a double down the left field line on the first pitch he saw. After a wild pitch and a walk to the next hitter, scrappy shortstop ’20 Jonathan Gazdar plated the game’s first run with an RBI ground out to 2nd base. That would be all the Broncos would be able to push across the entire game as Alameda starter ’19 RHP Max Nyrop (video from previous PBR showcase) would settle down and cruise through 5 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 8. Nyrop also had the big hit of the day... a homer in the 6th inning. The game was won by the Hornets, 4-1.
