Draft Spotlight: Matt McLain
May 27, 2018
Senior shortstop Matt McLain is a high motor, quick twitch athlete with plus aptitude, instincts, and feel for the game. He is a performer, or, I should say, pro-former. McLain drew a solid pro following this year, starting from the Area Code Games in the summer, through the fall and spring.
Most, if not all MLB teams came out to catch a glimpse ofMcLain; and he impressed consistently with key decision makers watching. McLain plays with joy and it rubs off on his teammates; he impacts the game every time I get a look, and puts his stamp on it in some form or fashion. I describe him in two words "baseball player", he does everything well, period. McLain seems to be able to slow the game down at critical moments and excel.
McLain and Beckman HS are still in the hunt for a CIFSS Div. 2 title, as they beat Calabasas HS 7-2 in their quarterfinal game. As usual, McLain did his part going 2-for-4 with an RBI in the victory. The Patriots advance to the semi-finals where they will take on Camarillo HS.
Let's take a closer look at Matt McLain.
