California Winter Risers: Hitters

Les Lukach
State Scouting Director

We have covered over 30 games and events since we launched last month and have had a chance to see many players. With the season getting set to start in SoCal this week, we wanted to highlight some players that have made an impression on us so far.

Keoni Cavaco 3B / Eastlake, CA / 2019

San Diego State commit. Physical 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame, athletic build, raw strength, with room for continued development. Advanced defensive abilities with a premier arm strength. Defensively Cavaco shows very good range and the ability to funnel the ball out front, light on his feet for a player his size, exchange is clean and seamless. Offensively there’s plenty of juice in the bat presently from upright athletic setup, stays balanced throughout swing while keeping head still, strength to pull side, quick hands, advanced barrel and zone awareness, covers the entire plate. Also pitched working 86-88 with fastball, did not throw a breaking ball.
