New Episode LIVE now! At The Yard Podcast

LOS ANGELES, CALIF.After a full spring that saw our team scour the state for players, we were able to see well over 300 games, along with our preseason events, providing us an opportunity to get a real feel for the Class of 2026 in California.

After seeing all those games and players comes a new update to the state Class of 2026 player rankings.

A significant update to the 2026 California Rankings comes after several looks this spring at the top players in the state. With that, we added 50 new players expanding the rankings to 100 total players. There were some small changes at the top, with some shuffling in the Top 10 to go with the addition of 50 new players to the rankings list. While it’s early, this 2026 class is looking like it has a solid foundation for what could become a class filled with collegiate and professional prospects.

Below, we take a look at the top 10 in the class, the top 10 uncommitted (outside of the top 10), and some scouting notes on some risers/newcomers.

TOP NEWCOMERS

Logan Georges - Clovis (TCU)

After a spring that saw him elevate himself to ace of the staff at the storied Clovis program and eventually committing to TCU, Logan Georges has had quite the meteoric rise in the rankings. With a fastball that reaches into the low 90’s and a slider/changeup combination that often flashes above average command, Georges quickly established himself as one of the top arms in the class in California. It’s a loose, repeatable delivery with a low effort operation throughout. At 6’1 170-pounds it’s easy to envision the frame adding strength and size over the next few years that should elevate his power pitcher profile.

JP Harmon - Novato (Ole Miss)

Long and lanky (6-foot-3, 160), got a look at him  in late March. Arm works fluidly, so easy in fact that the raw velo (can get to it in the stretch as well) he produces is a very strong bet to regularly tick upward into the 90s as he goes through HS. In the look we had he was 83-85 mph, T86, with 85 still showing up in the 5th inning. Sneaky hot through the zone, creates both angle and run (ability to still get comeback life on glove side), with the ability to climb on top of the ball. Feel for the CB (66-69 mph) and SL (73-77), flashed a split as well. Showed ability to vary shapes of the breaking balls. Confident young man, also swings bat quite well.

Dolan Maher - Torrey Pines

A standout at the 2022 SoCal Underclass Games, Maher took that performance and built on it all spring playing in 22 games on the varsity level. The defense-first catcher shows advanced skills behind the plate with a powerfully accurate arm. And though there were some offensive struggles on the varsity level, there’s enough of a track record offensively on him to feel confident that will undoubtedly improve next spring. At 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, Maher has a strong build on a frame that will almost certainly add strength and size in the future to withstand the rigors of the position.

Brandon Kleyman - Clayton Valley Charter (USC)

Saw on a couple of occasions this spring, most recently on 5/23/23 in the NCS D1 semi-final at San Ramon Valley. Long and broad frame, 6-foot-4, 185-lbs, brings mound presence and confidence with him to the mound. Overhand release, FB peaked at 88 mph in the two looks this spring, steady 86-87 in the NCS game when he was tasked with the middle innings in a game the Ugly Eagles went with four pitchers. Breaking ball was a smaller mid-60s pitch that had slider shape but relied mostly on the FB. Comes at hitters aggressively, has arm side life, certainly would appear to have ample velocity gains coming as he develops.

Jaden Liu - Servite

A physical, athletic catcher that plays in the Trinity League on the varsity level is always a player that’ll catch your attention and that’s exactly what Liu did last season. A spot starter, Liu shows the type of catch-and-throw ability that will make him a mainstay behind the dish for Servite in the years to come. Blocks/recovers very well with sneaky athleticism showing enough arm strength to make all throws. Consistent out front contact with some present strength, Liu shows an aggressive approach with a slight uphill bat path to the swing.

Wyatt Denton - Las Plumas

Athletic, energetic, talented, and has grown up the younger brother of a very good player (senior catcher Zane Denton), Denton is also a switch-hitter w/hit-getting ability. He’s got the ability to generally play any position on the field and do it well, including pitching, which he had to do a lot of this spring for his club (33.2 IP, 45 K, 4 BB, 20 H). His primary spot is behind the plate where he’s got an arm that is creeping toward being in the mid-70s (or more) on pop throws, strong receiving skills and quick feet. Arm also plays across the diamond in the 83+ mph range (that was as of January). Lean and sinewy strong at 5-foot-9, 160-lbs.

Nico Bavaro - St. Mary’s-Stockton

One of the most enjoyable pitchers to scout this season. Saw him start a big game vs Mitty at the Boras Classic, a game his team won in what at the time felt like an upset, though the Rams went on to reach the semi-finals of the SJS-D1 playoffs. Not big in stature or raw stuff, rather, he’s a young artist on the mound. Exceptional feel for such a young age, calm, composed, adds and subtracts with the FB (74-80 mph), landed pretty tight/quick CB (64-65 mph) with regularity and confidence, showed good CHG too. Changes delivery tempos like a season vet, can get hitters to chase/fish. Outstanding pick-off move as well.
