As a result of an outstanding senior season, Harvard Westlake SS/RHP Bryce Rainer has earned the 2024 Prep Baseball California Player of the Year award.
Rainer, widely considered a top of the first round pick in this year's draft, put together his best offensive season for the Wolverines hitting in the leadoff spot where he dominated early and often in the 2024 season. Facing some of the best arms in the country, Rainer put up huge numbers while flashing the type of power that have scouts champing at the bit to get him in their system. Across 33 games, he finished with a .505 average and a .614 on base percentage. He also slugged four HR with 22 RBI from the left side of the dish, while playing elite defense at shortstop. As the No. 1 player in California since his freshman season, Rainer is a slam dunk to hear his name early in the draft.

Rainer also toed the rubber for the Wolverines where he also oozes projection and has scouts thinking that he could potentially reach The Show from the position. Serving as the closer for the Wolverines, Rainer registered nine saves over 23 innings pitched allowing just six earned runs to go with a 1.83 ERA. He struck out 35 while walking 14 this season while allowing just nine hits. He finished with a 1.0 WHIP and BAA of .108. While many scouts believe he will be a full time shortstop, Rainer’s 96 mph fastball and devastating secondary pitches give the impression that if shortstop doesn’t work out he can easily make the transition to the mound full time in pro ball.

First batter look is a 3-pitch strikeout. Loose, easy delivery. Effecient movements; easy mover on the mound.
