2021 Area Code Games: Pitching Standouts

Nathan Rode | Shooter Hunt

After a one-year stint at LakePoint, the Area Code Games returned to the West Coast this summer, albeit at San Diego instead of Long Beach State. For five days, scouts got a look at some of the top prospects for the 2022 MLB Draft. We continue to wrap up our coverage of the event with a look at some standout pitchers from each team.

ATHLETICS

+ LHP Braeden Sloan (Woodcreek HS, CA) made his case for being one of, if not the, top arms in California with four strong innings over two appearances. He sat 89-91 in one inning of work, striking out two, early in the event and then returned to log three innings, allowing a hit and walk while striking out six more. The Southern California recruit has a long, lanky frame at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. He has a moderate tempo to his wind-up before coming through a 3/4 slot with some aggression and effort. While he struggled to spin a breaking ball, he showed the ability to neutralize right-handed hitters with a changeup that projects to be above average or better. He maintains fastball arm speed on it and turns it over to get some sink and fade.
