With Opening Day for Division I baseball less than five weeks away and prep baseball in the southern states also just right around the corner, we present the 2020 MLB Draft Names to Know. These are just a few of the pitching prospects who scouts will flock to see early and often this spring.
Mick Abel, RHP, Jesuit HS, OR
Prototypical projection with long, lean limbs and an easy delivery. Premium stuff includes a fastball that touches the mid 90s now and a mid-80s slider that grades plus at its best. If you want to nitpick, the only downside is the volatility of his demographic—high school right-handers. He is committed to Oregon State.
Reid Detmers, LHP, Louisville
An artist on the bump with command of an 89-93 mph four-seam fastball, a sinking two-seamer and the ability to repeat a plus curveball in the low-to-mid 70s.
