2016 TOS: Day 2 National Notebook
June 24, 2016
The 2016 Tournament of Stars is underway in Cary, NC, and Prep Baseball Report Executive Director Sean Duncan and National Supervisor Nathan Rode are in attendance. For the first two days of games—Wednesday and Thursday—they will provide two notebooks. Duncan will highlight players from states in PBR’s coverage area while Rode will cover the rest of the country.

CARY, NC—Thursday at the Tournament of Stars was a bit of a cluster. The first game was scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., but despite the frequency of overnight storms during North Carolina summers, the tarp was not put on the stadium field. Of course, there was a late-night storm that dumped a bunch of rain. After delays to 10:30 and then 11:00, play finally got underway at noon. Two slow-paced games got in before the third game was suspended in the fourth inning because of weather. Friday will be another workout day, though the Free and Stripes teams will conclude their game at 3:00 p.m. in lieu of the original schedule.
Despite the issues with weather, we got to see some solid baseball. Here are a few highlights…
+ RHP Alex Scherff (Prestonwood Christian Academy, TX) pitched two innings of relief for Brave in the first game. He allowed two hits and struck out two. An Arizona State recruit, he has a strong frame and is listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds. He pitches with a short arm action and medium leg kick and sits 92-94 mph with his fastball, which had arm-side life. His slider is loose, with big, slurvy break at 75-78. His best secondary pitch was his 82-84 changeup with fading action.
