Bc Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball BC Staff

On Thursday, May 23rd the Prep Baseball British Columbia hosted the BC Future Games Trials at Parkgate Park in North Vancouver, British Columbia. This gave players the opportunity to collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.

The event also serves as an identifier and qualifier for our Select Series Events such as Future Games (2026), Jr. Future Games (2028/2029), Senior Future Games (2025), and West Coast Games (2025/2026).

We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Pitching Data Dive, and Hitting Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on six standouts from the event.

Luke Laird SS / 2B / Brookswood Secondary, BC / 2026

Laird showed us why he is one of the top hitters in his class at the BC Future Games Trials. The 2026 grad stands at 5-9, 175Ibs and has advanced bat-to-ball that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the country. He has a short swing path, looking to elevate to the big part of the field. The barrel control was evident, with every ball being hit between the gaps, and 10 of 12 were over 87 mph reaching a max exit velocity of 96 mph. Laird was one of the top hitters on the Langley Blaze pro Tour back in March despite being one of the youngest players there.

Kadyn Armitage SS / OF / Grandview Heights Secondary, BC / 2026

Armitage caught the attention of staff with his maturity and smoothness on the diamond as a 2026 grad. The White Rock Tritons product showed the tools needed for a top of the order bat with his quick twitch and sneaky power to the pull side. Armitage made all the plays on the INF look routine and carried himself with great poise and confidence, which translated to his impressive showing. Armitage is a must follow for the 2026 class of infielders as he is already punching above his weight class in the Senior PBL.

Caine Fahrni SS / C / Killarney Secondary, BC / 2026

Fahrni had a strong showing on both sides of the ball at his home field in North Shore. Fahrni led all catchers with a 1.93 pop time showing off his quick release and strong arm. The athletic build generates plenty of power in the box and Fahrni drove the ball with authority to straight away center. He had a max exit velocity up to 92 mph and consistently found the barrel. Fahrni is another 2026 grad facing senior competition here on the west coast and should serve his development well over the next couple years with the Twins program.

Shane Brinham LHP / Handsworth, BC / 2025

Brinham, one of the top uncommitted 2025 in the country, was one of the better arms we saw at the BC Future Games Trials. There’s plenty of athleticism in his 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame. His arm is short and quick and has the ability to spin the baseball better than most. The fastball sat 87-89 mph and consistently spun it north of 2600 rpm. The slider profiles as a swing & miss pitch with tight, late break at 73-75 mph in which he has the ability to spin at 2700 rpm. The 2023 Prep Baseball Future Gamer showed his ability to generate swing & miss and dominate in-game at the Best of the West, striking out 13 in 5.1 innings. He’ll be looking to do much of the same throughout the summer.

Xander Guedes 3B / RHP / Seycove, BC / 2025

Guedes is showing to be a legitimate two-way product out of the North Shore Twins program. Standing at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, the uncommitted 2025 is a physical athlete on the field that catches the eye. For those that do not know this name it can be found on almost every leader board as one of the strongest players in BC’s 2025 class. He had a max fastball velocity of 90 mph and a round of BP filled with barrels and a max EV of 95.1. Guedes is a must follow in the 2025 class and his ceiling continues to climb as he polishes up his movements to utilize his size and power.

Douw Van Heerden RHP / 1B / Argyle Secondary, BC / 2028

It’s not often you see a 2028 stand out at an event with players much older than him, but Van Heerden did just that. At 6-foot-2, 190-pounds he’s physical for his age and that was evident when he stepped on the mound. The fastball sat 76-77 mph with the ability to spin it north of 2100 rpm. The curveball was 67-69 mph with plenty of horizontal break, averaging over 16 inches of it. He also spun it consistently around 2500 rpm. As Van Heerden continues to mature and add strength, more velocity and spin will come with it making him a 2028 to follow for years to come.
