Top Uncommitted 2019 Arms/Position Prospects

With a number of top 2019 grads already committed heading into the season, there are still many uncommitted athletes coming out of BC that remains confusing that they have not signed yet. Coaches and scouts need to take the time to garner a closer look at these Top 2019 Uncommitted BC Arms and Bats.

All these guys are playing for top programs in the BC premier league which year after year houses some of the top talent Canada has to offer. All are expected to be relied upon by their respective programs to be huge contributors this season and don’t expect them to be hanging around the uncommitted lists for very long.

The Arms

Reid Dawson RHP / R.A. McMath, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-2 170-pound RHP from the North Delta Blue Jays of the BCPBL. A lot to like in his as he passes the eye test with room to add to his athletic frame. Shows ability to the control the strike zone from a high 3/4 slot with multiple pitches including a heavy fastball consistently in the mid to upper 80s, a developing change up to both sides of the plate with late depth in the high 60s to low 70s and a late breaking 12/6 CB in the low 70s. Will be looked upon heavily to be a front line starter for the Bluejays this season. will be an interesting follow for teams looking to add a quality arm.

Jackson Flemons RHP / OF / st.johns, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-4 190-pound RHP for the UBC Thunder of the BCPBL. Here’s another guy who definitely passes the eye test who still has room for added strength to his frame as he continues to mature. Shows a quality 3 pitch mix including a mid to upper 80s FB with late two seem ride. A late breaking 12/6 CB with late break that has the ability to be a plus pitch as he continues to mature. Also flashes a developing change up in the low 60s with some downward depth. With room for growth in an already impressive frame should be on a lot of colleges radars this season.

Lukas Frers LHP / Vancouver, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-1 165-pound LHP for the Langley Blaze of the BCPBL. Uses a 3 pitch mix from a high 3/4 slot to attack hitters to both sides of the plate. Shows a FB with late two seem ride in the low 80s, an 11/5 CB in the upper 60s low 70s range and a CH in the low 70s with good downward depth. With room to add to his frame expect 2019 to be a big season for Frers. A quality follow for colleges looking to add the Lefty to any rotation.

Joseph Sinclair LHP / Sentinel Secondary, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-3 170-pound LHP for The North Shore Twins of the BCPBL. One of the top arms in the province still uncommitted. Recent member of Team BC at Tournament 12 in Toronto. Shows two quality pitches in a mid 80s FB with late two seem ride down in the zone and spins a mid 70s 12/6 CB with real swing and miss movement. Has shown a developing CH as well in the 70mph range. A lot to like in this LHP with a lot of room for added strength there’s a lot more coming from this arm. Should be on a lot of radars entering the 2019 season.

Kevin Kim RHP / Yale, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-1 170-pound RHP from the Fraser Valley Cardinals of the BCPBL. This intriguing arm shows a 4 pitch mix from a high 3/4 slot when attacking hitters to both sides of the plate. His FB is consistent in the low 80s with good two seem ride. He shows a 12/6 CB in the low 70s with good downward, a developing CH in the low 70s and a consistent splitter in the mid 70s that he shows a good feel for with late downward.

Position Prospects

Holden Cumiskey C / 1B / Langley Secondary, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-4 175-pound catcher/1b for the Langley Blaze of the BCPBL. Behind the plate receives very well with smooth soft hands and quick feet on throw downs hitting upper 70s on the gun with a pop time 1.92-1.94 seconds. Moves very well for such a tall frame on his blocking as well. At the plate from the left side works gap to gap with a line drive approach with power to the pull side. With a lot of room to add to his frame this is a very intriguing follow this season for any college looking to add a catcher.

Connor Hall OF / Parksville, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-1 170-pound Outfielder with ample room to add strength to his frame from the Parksville Royals of the BCPBL. Gets good reads on balls in the outfield and runs a sub 7.0-second 60 which allows him to comfortably play all three outfield positions. At the plate he uses a simple compact swing from the left side showing consistent gap to gap ability with increasing power as he matures. With added size and strength to his frame as he matures he should be an interesting follow for any college.

Dustin McElwain OF / OF / Steveston London Secondary School, BC / 2019

Report: 5-foot-10 185-pound athletic OF from the North Delta Blue Jays of the BCPBL. Recent member of the Brewers scout team at the Perfect Game MLK showcase in Arizona. Gritty outfielder takes good routes to balls with above average speed showing no hesitation to leave his feet to make an athletic play. Has a good accurate arm and shows ability to play all positions in the outfield. At the plate uses an aggressive approach from the right side showing good gap to gap power with extra carry to the pull side. Will be counted on to be a big contributor on what should be a strong Blue Jays squad. A definite follow for any college looking to fill a hole.

Joshua Walker SS / 3B / Lambrick park, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot-2 180-pound SS for the Victoria Mariners of the BCPBL. A recent invite to the Canadian JR national team and T12 participant. Very athletic build with plenty of room to grow. In the infield moves well running a 6.70-second 60 attacking balls making tough plays to his left look routine. At the plate is a top of the lineup threat with a short compact gap to gap swing. Had a good line in 2018 hitting .323/.424/.405 with more BB then Ks. With a number of positives already and much more room to grow and add strength to his frame he should be one of the first names off the uncommitted list in 2019.

Ryan Dauphinee SS / 3B / Elgin Park, BC / 2019

Report: 6-foot 175-pound middle infielder for the White Rock Tritons of the BCPBL. Athletic build shows good quick footwork cutting angles and attacking ground balls. Has shown improved arm strength across the diamond and has quick hands around the bag on double plays. At the plate uses a quiet load and smooth swing working mainly up the middle with flyball carry to the pull side. Has shown improved speed and increased strength as in gym more this winter. Smart Baseball IQ and a student of the game. Any college looking for a MIF should be following Dauphinee in 2019.
