Super 60 Spotlight: Dominic Hambley
January 14, 2021
On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.
We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this month, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.
Scouting Report
Hambley has burst onto the scene this year thanks to a fastball that he's ran up to 93 mph, consistently sitting at 91-92. A big body at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, the Victoria Mariners product tends to get wild at times, but there's no ignoring the pure arm strength he possesses. His breaking ball had one of the best spin rates at Inside Performance in February, showing a lot of potential to be a plus offering in the future if he can learn how to command it. Hambley is one of the top uncommitted arms in the 2021 class and will also be a close follow for next year's draft.
Dominic is a big-frame 6-foot-2 205-pound strong dual-player that showcased pop at the plate and a heavy fastball on the mound. Toeing the rubber at the Inside Pitch Winter Showcase in North Vancouver last week, Dominic showcased a heavy FB at 86-87 with a good developing CB in the 69-70 range. CH is a third-pitch trying to get a feel for. At the plate as a RHH, Dominic had the 5th highest exit-velo (97mph) at the event that featured players two years older. With a small-stride and short compact swing, there is plenty of pop left in the bat to tap into. As Dominic continues to add size to his frame and develops his young skill-set, he will be an entertaining top-prospect to follow coming out of British Columbia in 2021.
