BC Prospect of the Week - Jack Seward
Scouting Report
Prospect Update: Seward has somewhat of a coming out party in 2018 as the young and uncommitted right-hander was one of the standouts at our first BC Open Id where he displayed a loose and easy arm from a clean 3/4 slot while displaying feel for three pitches and a fastball that worked in the 83-85 range in April. Seward continued to pitch well and carried into the Canada Cup with Team BC and also appearance at T12 in September. We saw the velocity begin to rise and Seward touched 89 mph and worked more comfortably in the 85-88 range. The breaking ball worked in the low 70's with 11/5 shape and when he is consistent with his release point, you'll get some sharp and late action. There is feel with the changeup and looks to develop into a pitch Seward can trust and work off his fastball.
2019 Projection: With the new rankings just released, Seward comes in at number on our list and the second ranked right-hander in the 2020 class. The body projects well as it's long and lean with room to add strength and mass. Expect for Seward to be an arm that's ready to go out the gates and wouldn't be all that surprised to see the velocity climb and his stuff e that much sharper. A 2020 uncommitted righty schools need to be focused on and following.
