Look at JNT Selection camp: BC Invites

The Junior National Team gets together this week for their selection camp as they prepare for their upcoming qualifier in Panama for the World Championships in 2019.

They kick things off for a week in Ft. Lauderdale as they bring down a roster of 28 and must get to 20 before they leave to Panama. It’s a special time of year as this Junior National Team has a unique look with present professional players and current freshman get the hall pass for a chance to represent the motherland another time together.

Current players from BC that will be returning from college and joining the JNT in Florida is right-handed pitcher Tate Dearing who will not have to travel far from Polk State and outfielder Jayden Knight from the university of British Columbia.

Dearing is an experienced arm while has represented the country numerous times while Knight joined the JNT in his senior year and will add to an already impressive athletic and speedy outfield corpse.

Three more players from British Columbia who are currently still in high school will makeup the rest of the BC roster invited with all being pitchers in recent 2019 Sacramento State commit Ryan Scott, 2020 Oregon State commit Justin Thorsteinson and uncommitted 2020 right-hander Theo Millas.

Millas is arguably the top uncommitted arm in the country as he’s 6-foot-4, 205-pounds with a clean and easy arm from ¾ slot, he worked 87-90 at Jupiter in October while he flashed feel for his changeup and a slider in the 76-78 range with tilt and a couple with late action to it.

Both Scott and Thorsteinson are live arms who work in the upper 80’s with their fastballs. The key for both will be if they can control their breaking balls and throw enough strikes with their secondary stuff to be successful.

All 5 of these players have a chance to be impactful on the trip and can should be for tough decision making to get his roster down to 20 for the qualifiers.

The Junior National Team travels today, gets on field for a team workout tomorrow and game action begins Thursday with games everyday until they depart for Panama on the 20th. You can see the full schedule HERE.
