PBR CANADA MIZUNO PROSPECTS OF THE WEEK

Atlantic

Nicholas Smith C / OF / Holy Trinity, NL / 2022

Smith, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher out of Newfoundland shows some promise in his game. At the plate the swing is loaded with good extension with his hands from the left side. The swing is geared towards the middle and to his pull-side. In the outfield the feet work well with good rhythm, the arm works long and smooth with some carry on his ball. Behind the plate Smith has a good transfer and a quick first step on his throw downs. Ball also shows good carry from behind the plate, a solid JUCO catcher who might perform on both sides of the ball.


Ontario

Jacob Miller OF / C / ONeill CVI, ON / 2022

Miller, a physical 2022 6-foot-2, 190-pounds might be one of the best bats in his class. The Chipola commit flat out hits. The swing is relaxed and twitchy with good rhythm in his hands. In the outfield the feet are quick and smooth with an arm that has strength and carry to it. From a defensive side, Miller gives you some versatility, but as a bat-first player it doesn’t really matter where he plays.


British Columbia

Carson Latimer RHP / OF / Sands, BC / 2022

Latimer, a 6-foot-3 185-pound Cloud County CC commit out of the North Delta Blue Jays program is one of the more impressive 2022 arms in the country. Up to 91, the arm is long and whippy with good downhill action and a high release point. The Fastball has life to it, he shows a solid off-speed mix with a slider that is tough to read out of the hand that will compliment his fastball nicely.


Alberta

Matthew Grabmann RHP / SS / Choate Rosemary Hall, CT / 2022

Grabmann, a 2022 Oregon commit out of the Okotoks Dawgs program has the ability to be an impact arm at the next level. The fastball sticks out big time, living 92-95 mph and up to 96. The Curveball is tough to read, comes out of the hand at the same arm slot as his fastball. Tough pitcher to face from either side of the plate with his ability to hide the ball well and tough to pick up the spin on his pitches. 


Quebec

Jimmy Dionne LHP / 1B / Seminaire Saint-Francois, QC / 2023

Dionne, an uncommitted 6-foot-4 195-pound LHP/1B out of the ABC program has a decent chance to be two-way at the Division 1 level. On the mound the arm is loose and whippy, he’s mid-to-high 80s with good tempo in his delivery. The fastball has some natural arm side run to it, the off-speed has good depth and shape, and will also mix in a changeup that lives down in the zone. At the plate he has a quiet setup with not too many moving parts, the hand path is consistent with all his hits driving the ball gap to gap, hitting balls off the wall with Team Canada camp at Dunedin Stadium. He can also pick it at first base, making him an interesting DI prospect.
