Canada Summers Games - Day 1/2 Scouting Notes
August 28, 2022
Our staff was all over the Canada Summer Games just a couple weeks ago as Team Ontario secured gold on home soil in Niagara. There was a ton of uncommitted talent from coast to coast in attendance as we got a look at the top 17U players in the country.
Below, our scouting staff provides video and scouting notes on some of the standouts from the first two days of the tournament.
bRITISH COLUMBIA
Cameron Macleod C / 1B / Argyle, BC / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 1
Macleod seemed to come out of every at-bat with a hit this Sunday and Monday. The uncommitted 2023 displayed plenty of feel for the barrel from the right side of the dish. Smooth and controlled swing with juice, along with a patient approach, and quality ABs in every visit to the plate. On the other side of the ball the young catcher showed off soft hands, athletic actions, and good catch-and-throw. As one of the better all-around 2023s in the country, Macleod should be an exciting follow as he continues to mature.

Kenny Scott C / OF / Delta, BC / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 14 / POS: 2
After putting on a show at the Best of the West in BC, Scott did not disappoint. The young catcher shows off an athletic frame with agile actions, good IQ, and an advanced receiving ability. Scott’s flexibility allows him to keep everything in front while flashing plenty of arm strength and a quick catch-and-throw with in-game sub-2 pops. Smooth swing from the right side of the dish with some juice, found a couple of extra-base hits out in Niagara. As one of the better defensive catchers in Canada’s 2023 class, Scott is an exciting young backstop that will be fun to watch as he continues to develop.

Angelo Franco 1B / 3B / Alpha, BC / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 1
As a stand out at the Best of the West in BC, we were excited to see more of Franco. After a couple of barrels in game one, the young 3B/1B went deep off a tough-pitching Ontario team. Franco flashed juice from the right side with some feel for the barrel and quick hands through the zone. Balanced and controlled swing with a strong lower half. An athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame that moves well around the diamond. Projectable body that is one to watch as he continues to develop.

ALBERTA
Dylan Chopp OF / RHP / William Aberhart, AB / 2023In a hard hitting Alberta lineup, Chopp’s bat has stood out in Niagara. The uncommitted 2023 showed a patient approach at the dish, and an ability to shoot the ball around the diamond. From the right side Chopp displays a quick and compact swing with some juice. Gets the hands to the ball well and makes for a tough out in every AB. With a projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame Chopp moves well around the diamond, and shows athletic actions in the outfield. Interesting 2023.

Leo Cote 3B / RHP / Trinite, QC / 2024Cote was the most exciting bat in the Alberta lineup. The Oregon State commit proved himself to be a tough out in every at bat, and gathered multiple extra-base hits in each game we saw him. The young infielder showed off plenty of juice from the right side of the dish, along with consistent barrels. Open stance with quick hands through the zone and a balanced swing. Good feel to hit. One of the more exciting 2024s at the tournament.
|
Brett Getz LHP / LHP / Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, AB / 2024After impressing at the Future Games, we were excited to see Getz on the bump again. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame immediately stands out on the mound with long and easy arm action from a ¾ slot. The wirey lefty lived down in the zone with a runny fastball that garnered lots of swings and misses. Flashed a slider with sharp break at times. Intriguing 2023 arm to watch as he continues to mature.
|
Mitchell Heinrich RHP / 3B / Jr Robson , AB / 2023Another intriguing lefty arm out of Alberta. Heinrich’s wirey 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame stood out on the bump where he pounded the zone from a high ¾ slot. Athletic movements down the mound along with quick and loose arm action. Mixed in a sharp breaker for strikes as well. An interesting 2023 arm to watch as he continues to mature.

NEWFOUNDLAND & lABRADOR
Hudson White LHP / Holy Heart, NL / 2024After an intriguing outing at the Future Games, we were looking forward to seeing White again. While still raw on the mound there is lots to like from the 6-foot-4, 195-pound lefty. Uncommitted 2024 with quick and whippy arm action and lots more in the tank. At the dish, White’s bat impressed in Niagara where he collected multiple extra-base hits. Looks comfortable from the right side and carries the barrel through the zone. Good feel to hit with some juice. Projectable young body that will be exciting to watch as he continues to mature on both sides of the ball.

Braedy Walsh OF / 1B / O'Donel , NL / 2022Walsh had a good showing this week in Niagara. The uncommitted 2022 showed well in the outfield with an athletic 6-foot, 170-pound frame that can move a bit. Good actions to the ball along with some arm. From the right side of the dish, Walsh shows a compact swing and quick hands to the ball. Found himself a couple of extra-base hits throughout the past few days and flashed some juice. An interesting 2022 to keep an eye on. |
