Report
The uncommitted 2021 Lamothe is a right-handed hitter who typically hits in the middle of the order for the Blaze and has started to make a name and turn some heads around the province with the bat speed he displays. The third-baseman who has shown feel and softness with his hands at the hot corner has also been taking reps over the winter behind the dish, which is interesting to hear as the 6-foot, 175-pound frame of Lamothe can move well and there is enough arm strength to play in game.
At the plate, Lamothe starts with a with an even stance and a flat bat that rests upon his back shoulder, there is rhythm in the lower half that goes along with a small leg lift, he will get out front and on his front side early, but the quickness and whip of the bat really comes into play and lets the ball jump off his bat. The path gets fairly flat and there is some intent and aggressiveness on his part, in February it was more line drives than moon shots indoors at the IP event, but the sound and ability to find barrel was there.
Lamothe impressed our guys in Washington in the fall of 2019 with two in-game triples, and again the path and bat speed was evident that day.
With Lamothe looking to add catcher to his resume, and the potential for strength gains as he matures, he is a 2021 that coaches will want to keep an eye on once we resume and get back to playing ball again.
