This past weekend, November 2-3, Prep Baseball Report hosted the inaugural New Mexico State Games at Rio Rancho High School in Albuquerque, NM. This open event welcomed top prospects from the 2025-2028 classes across New Mexico, offering players the chance to showcase their skills in front of the PBR Arizona staff using advanced, on-field technology.

Colton Floyd OF / RHP / Sandia, NM / 2027Colton Floyd, an outfielder and right-handed pitcher from Sandia High School, made a huge impression at the New Mexico State Games. The 2027 graduate stands out with a high-level, athletic frame at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds. From the moment he stepped on the field, Floyd was the talk of the event, putting on an impressive display during BP by launching multiple home runs over the left-center and center field walls, with a few towering shots that looked as if they were going to hit the lights. His elite bat path and powerful swing, with an average bat speed of 76 mph, produced an event-high exit velocity of 103.4 mph. In the outfield, Floyd’s arm strength was equally impressive, clocking in at 90 mph. On the mound, he showcased a polished three-pitch mix, with his fastball sitting 87-89 mph and touching 90. Floyd’s performance highlighted his significant potential as a dual threat on the field.

Jack Byers RHP / 3B / Artesia, NM / 2026Jack Byers, a 2026 right-handed pitcher from Artesia High School, took the mound Sunday morning and impressed with a polished, efficient delivery and a well-developed three-pitch mix. Byers’ fastball was his standout pitch, consistently sitting in the 86-89 mph range and touching 90, with a spin rate of 2170 rpm, providing good life through the zone. His go-to secondary pitch was an effective changeup, coming in at 80-83 mph with a 1384 spin rate and mirroring his fastball arm action, adding deception that kept hitters off balance. Byers secured the win as pitcher of the day with his performance, and his refined mechanics and competitive mix make him a high-follow prospect.

Adan Bustos RHP / OF / Rio Rancho, NM / 2025Adan Bustos, an uncommitted 2025 outfielder from Rio Rancho High School, showcased a strong skill set during Saturday’s workout, where he recorded an 86 mph arm from the outfield. At the plate, Bustos brings a unique approach with an unorthodox swing that nonetheless finds the barrel effectively, allowing him to drive pitches with intent to all parts of the field. In the game portion, Bustos excelled, connecting for an opposite-field double that highlighted his ability to adjust and make impactful contact. His performance makes him an intriguing uncommitted prospect to follow as he continues to develop.

Adriel Figueroa-Brito SS / RHP / Sandia, NM / 2025Adriel Figueroa-Brito, a two-way uncommitted 2025 prospect from Sandia High School, delivered a standout performance that underscored his elite athleticism and versatility. Leading the event with a blazing 6.57 in the 60-yard dash, Figueroa also impressed defensively, reaching 92 mph across the diamond from shortstop with exceptional accuracy and smooth actions. At the plate, he showcased a quick, efficient bat path that generated an impressive 100.9 mph exit velocity, driving the ball effectively to all fields with barrel control. On the mound, Figueroa continued to excel, posting the day’s top velocity at 91.4 mph and pairing his fastball with a sharp 76 mph slider boasting over 2500 RPM. His ability to make an impact across all facets of the game makes Figueroa an exciting high-follow prospect for the 2025 class.

Alex Gallegos 2B / OF / Rio Rancho, NM / 2026Alex Gallegos, a 2026 graduate from Rio Rancho High School, displayed his offensive skills with an impressive multi-hit game performance, including a well-struck double. Standing at 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds, Gallegos has a lean, athletic frame with room for growth. At the plate, he uses a sizable load that transitions him into a strong hitting position, allowing for smooth, compact swings through the zone. Gallegos consistently found the barrel, showcasing his ability to make solid contact and control the bat. His approach and mechanics at the plate highlight his potential as he continues to develop.

Sebastian Chavez LHP / OF / Rio Grande, NM / 2025Sebastian Chavez, an infielder and outfielder, delivered a strong performance over the weekend, especially during Sunday’s gameplay. After a solid workout on Saturday, Chavez came up big at the plate, with his first big hit of the day being a well-driven double into the right-center field gap. Although his 7.41 60-yard dash time shows room for improvement in foot speed, Chavez demonstrated solid base-running instincts and quick, explosive movements in the box from the left side. Richard Reiffenberger RHP / OF / Rio Rancho, NM / 2028Richard Reiffenberger, a 2028 two-way prospect from Rio Rancho High School, showcased elite potential on the mound during Sunday’s gameplay, establishing himself as the top arm in his class. With a 3-pitch mix that he consistently commanded for strikes, his fastball sat impressively at 81-85 mph—a standout velocity for his age group. Roybal’s 6.88 60-yard dash highlighted his agility, and he followed this up with mature, consistent BP rounds, showing off a smooth, effortless path that drove hard-hit balls to the middle of the field. On the mound, Roybal impressed with his command, consistently pounding the zone with a fastball in the mid-80s, paired with a sharp-breaking ball at 73-75 mph, featuring an advanced 2400+ spin rate. His skills both at the plate and on the mound make him a valuable and versatile prospect.

Matthew Cook 3B / RHP / Rio Rancho, NM / 2027Matthew Cook, a 2027 corner infielder and right-handed pitcher from Rio Rancho High School, delivered one of the top performances on Saturday’s workout, showcasing elite bat speed that generated an impressive 98.6 mph exit velocity and a max distance of 350 feet. Defensively, Cook demonstrated solid glove work with an 82 mph arm across the infield. He carried this success into Sunday’s gameplay, ripping a hard shot down the left field line for a hit. On the mound, Cook continued to stand out, sitting comfortably at 83-86 mph with his fastball and mixing in a breaking ball at 67-69 mph. Cook’s all-around skill set and power make him an exciting prospect in the 2027 class.

Whitmire also displayed solid athleticism, running a 6.93 60-yard dash and demonstrating an 83 mph arm from the outfield.
