New Mexico State Games: Positional Data Dive
November 7, 2024
This past weekend, November 2nd and 3rd, the Prep Baseball Arizona staff travelled to East to host the inaugural New Mexico State Games and get a look at the high school talent the Albuquerque area has to offer. Rio Rancho High School played host and the event featured over 70 players in the 2025-2028 classes. It was a talented group with several players from multiple classes garnering national attention and we'll continue to showcase top talent at the event over the next several days.
All players ran through a full pro-style workout on Saturday alongside our tech partners TrackMan, Blast Motion, Vizual Edge and Vald Training, followed by a trio of games on Saturday. 'State Games' events allow our staff to get a look at a large pool of top talent from a specific area, while also giving us the chance to see how these players perform in game-action against quality competition.
The event featured several premiere prospects in the State with all players at the event still uncommitted, but it shouldn't be long before some of these names start flying off the board.
Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis article. Now, we will take a further in-depth look at the top position players and metrics with the help of our tech partnerships, broken down by the categories down below:

The Edge Score is a comprehensive score out of 100 that takes the core-six visual skills into account, providing athletes, parents, coaches and scouts with a benchmark number for assessing an athlete’s overall visual ability. In general the higher the Edge Score, the higher chance of athletic success. Think of the Edge Score as the 'Sixth Metric' in the standard Five-Tools that make up a ball player.
The average Edge Score for the 2020 MLB Draft Class was 79.3 (of hitters who completed a Vizual Edge test). MLB players we've worked with typically show stronger scores, with elite hitters scoring consistently above 87.0 on their Edge Score.
