Uncommitted Spotlight: 2019 IF/OF Thome Nickelson
February 8, 2018
Throughout the year PBR will put the spotlight on a number of uncommitted prospects who show the necessary tools to play at the next level. 2019 Thome Nickelson is listed as a primary SS but may profile best at 3B or in the OF in college. A fast twitch athlete, Nickelson is a 6.8 runner with enough arm to handle either of those spots and made hard contact in live game action at the recent PBR Preseason All-State Games.

Scouting Report
12/27/17 - Athletic 6-foot, 155-pound frame. Intriguing prospects shows combination of bat speed, arm strength and all-around fast twitch ability. May profile best in the outfield at the next level. 7.01 60-yard dash shows he’s the type of athlete that will offer positional versatility moving forward. Shows present bat speed and projects for at least gap power as he gets stronger. Bat path can get steep at times and back side doesn’t always get through the baseball. Tools to hit with improved mechanics. Feet and arm work well on the infield, shows whippy arm action and the ability to throw from multiple angles; 82 mph infield velocity. Hands may project best to 3B or the outfield.
10/29/17 – Lean, athletic 6-foot, 155-pound frame with plenty room to add strength. Nickelson turned in some of the better testing numbers at the event, posting an 82 mph infield velo, 7.08 60-yard dash and 88 mph exit velo. Offensively, despite some crudeness, his combination of bat speed and hand eye produced some hard line drive contact and makes him an intriguing prospect. On the infield he slings the ball from a low, almost sidearm slot that tends to give his throws across the diamond some sinking action. Tool set could also profile in the outfield.
