Jake Gorrell SS / 2B / Red Mountain, AZ / 2024One of the top performers at this years Scottsdale Open at Scottsdale Stadium was Red Mountain Middle infielder Jake Gorrell. While Gorrell won’t wow you with size, he showed to excel in multiple categories. In the field Gorrell had one of, if not the cleanest round of the day showcasing clean actions and a pocket that always seemed to find the ball. At the plate he has a short flat stroke that dominated to the middle part of the field with consistent hard contact. At the next level we see Gorrell moving to the right side of the infield. We look forward to following Gorrell the rest of the summer season for the Arizona Sandlot.

Conor Rae SS / OF / Hamilton, AZ / 2027The name to keep an eye on for the years to come is incoming freshman Conor Rae. Rae was a standout in multiple fashions during Tuesdays workout and it started in the field. While Rae is a Swiss Army knife defensively playing shortstop, catcher and outfield, he managed to be a standout in all of them. In the infield Rae showed a confidence in the glove and the highest infield velocity of the day at 85 mph. Behind the plate Rae had an event best pop time at 1.90 with a quick transfer and strong arm. At the plate Rae has a strong base with a flat to slight uphill path that produces easy loft to all fields. The Arizona staff has identified Rae as one of if not the top incoming freshman as we get into the second half of the summer.

Aiden Maselli 3B / RHP / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2024Perhaps the most physical prospect at the Scottsdale open was corner infielder Aiden Maselli. Maselli showed to be a threat in the box with a tall stance and flat path that seemed to work in the zone forever. During Maselli’s rounds he showed maturity in the box with a violent approach, that looks to do damage when he steps to the plate. We look forward to seeing Maselli in early August as he will be representing Arizona at this years West Coast Games in Las Vegas Nevada.

Brody Johnson RHP / OF / Flagstaff, AZ / 2026A standout from the 2026 class that caught the eye of the Arizona staff was Outfielder and Pitcher Brody Johnson. The Flagstaff native is new to the PBR scene and showcased himself in a big way during Tuesdays workout. While Johnson still has plenty of room for added size and strength, his actions and the way he went about the day stood out amongst his peers. At the plate Johnson has a wide base with a light hover load and a flat path that produced hard contact throughout his rounds. We look forward to following Johnson as he goes into his sophomore season at Flagstaff High.
