PROGRESS REPORT: Toby Haarer
PBR has had the chance to dig through the players and numbers from the summer & throughout the beginning of the fall where we have seen several players make some significant jumps in recent weeks. Today, we will be taking a look at a "Progress Report" feature that highlights players that have shown significant improvement in their game; whether it's on the mechanical end, performance wise, physicality or in the measurable statistic department. The "Progress Report" can be a minor improvement in recent months or a substantial transformation over time. Today, we will be taking a look at 2022 RHP Toby Haarer (Desert Mountain).
2022 RHP Toby Haarer (Desert Mountain)- uncommitted, last attended a PBR event back in mid June, participating in our 2021 Top Prospect Games as a 2022 grad. From an athletic projectable body with long arms, Haarer threw from a slow tempo, upper body dominant delivery. His FB sat 78-83mph on the day while showing some feel for the breaking ball at 72-73mph. He also displayed some two-way capabilities at the event as a catcher with a naturally strong as well as showing some pop offensively.
Today, he has made some tweaks to his delivery to make it more athletic with more use of the lower half especially in the wind up. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot, showing some arm speed. Ball jumps out of his hand some at 85-87, topping out at 88mph with occasional arm side movement at 2200rpm. His SL shows some sharpness at 73-75mph at 2100rpm that is developing more consistency. Haarer has the athleticism and natural arm strength to make some positive changes on the mound in the near future. He also continues to show some two-way potential as well. Haarer's development should be followed closely.
June 2020: FB: 78-83mph; CV: 70-73mph; SL: 72-73mph
October 2020: FB: 85-88mph; SL: 73-75mph
