Scout Blog: Pima CC @ Glendale CC

PBR AZ Scout, James Parker, was in attendance for Tuesday, March 22, double header between Pima CC and Glendale CC. Both clubs walked away with wins on the day, as the double header ended in a split.

Game 1
Pima CC 11 - Glendale CC 6
Jaren Jackson LHP / V. Sue Cleveland, NM / 2021U New Mexico commit Jaren Jackson (LHP) got the start for Pima CC at went 4.2 IP with 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB and 4 K. The ACCAC ERA leader got a no-decision after the Pima bats came alive in the sixth inning. The 6’3 lefty showed his ability to throw strikes and utilize his FB (84-86, sat 85) and CH (76-77) combo to keep Pima within striking distance. |
Mitchell Downing RHP / Cactus, AZ / 2019Opposing Jackson for Glendale CC was New Mexico St commit, sophomore righty Mitchell Downing who leads the team in wins. Downing worked 84-86 with his FB but heavily utilized his secondary stuff frequently mixing in a SL (76-78) and CB (70-75). Downing took a no decision finishing the game with 5 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 0 BB and 4 K. |
Liam O'Brien RHP / Salpointe Catholic, AZ / 2021The pitching standout of Game One was Pima closer and uncommitted true freshman Liam O’Brien (RHP). Who shut the door on an 11-6 victory by blowing his FB (90-92, worked 90) by Glendale batters and finishing the game with a 77 mph CB. O’Brien finished with 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB and 2 K. |
Game 2
Pima CC 2 - Glendale CC 4
Bradon Zastrow LHP / OF / Farmington, NM / 2021Starting the second half of the double header was U Arizona commit Bradon Zastrow (LHP). Zastrow showed interesting stuff from the left-side, working 87-90, sitting 88, w/ his fastball and mixing in a CH (81-83) that showed fringy arm-side fade and short cutting SL (78-81). Zastrow finished the day after 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and 4 SO but was the hard luck loser thanks to 2 unearned runs. |
Hayden King RHP / Paradise Honors, AZ / 2021Getting the call for Glendale was towering uncommitted freshman RHP Hayden King. At 6’4/220 lbs King can have difficulty repeating his delivery which led to 4 BBs but he was able to limit the damage and earned the victory. King features a low 80’s FB (83-85) and a CB (72-74). His final line was 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO. |
Emilio Corona OF / San Luis Obispo, AZ / 2020Pima’s star outfielder, U Washington kick-back and recent U Arizona commit Emilio Corona (RF) led the charge and added to his ACCAC league lead in homeruns. Finishing 5-for-7 w/ 3 singles, double, homerun, 2 runs, RBI and 2 BBs. Corona shows a compact muscular frame with strong hands and wrists that produce solid pull power. His average arm strength will allow him to handle RF in the Pac-12 next season with the Wildcats. |
