Newcomer: 2021 RHP Nick Evans

Over the course of our year round coverage, we have the chance of running into many different prospects of many different skill levels. We see hundreds of players throughout a given year. Sometimes, we still run into some quality prospects that we haven't seen too much of in the past due to different reasons. Our "Newcomer" feature highlights prospects that we may have recently ran into  or that have jumped on our radar. Typically, these prospects will make a jump in our Arizona Player Rankings in the next update.

We recently had the chance to get a closer look at 2021 RHP Nick Evans of Arcadia High School. Evans will surely be added to our next 2021 player rankings update.

2021 RHP Nick Evans (Arcadia) attended our Uncommitted Upperclass Showcase in mid October where he made a significant impression on the mound. Previously, we had heard good things about Evans from his HS coach but this was the first time we have were able to see him in person. Evans displays a highly projectable frame at a wiry 6-foot-7 180-pounds with some athleticism and plenty of room to get stronger. He hasn't thrown as many innings this year as most guys of his caliber and should have plenty of innings in the tank going into the spring. At our Uncommitted Upperclass, Evans threw from an athletic delivery with easy effort. Used short arm action from a 3/4 slot with some quickness. Evans FB sat 83-85, topping out at 86mph on the day with more in the tank in future. He showed some feel for the SL that was slurvy at times at 71-75mph at 2369rpm. His CH showed as an above average pitch for him with sink down in the zone at 75-77mph. Evans athleticism combined with his ultra projectable frame give him a high ceiling that scouts should pay attention to going forward.
