Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

PBR Future Games is set for July 28th- July 31st

Prep Baseball Report's one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted 2023 prospects and select 2024 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area. The Future Games will take place on July 28th through July 31st at LakePoint Sports in Cartersville, GA.

The Future Games is the premier summer scouting event for Class of 2023 prospects and select 2024 prospects. In a typical year, more than 320 college coaches from all over the country are in attendance. The event is huge draw for college with many of the top uncommitted players from across the country in attendance. The Prep Baseball Report services are also subscribed by more than 800 colleges and pro scouts. Last year, due to COVID, scouts weren't able to be in attendance but they were able to follow along through our online streaming platform that is hooked up on every field at this premier facility.

Players will also receive maximum visibility from college coaches all over the country, in addition to being promoted through the Prep Baseball Report multimedia platforms.

Each state team will play three games. Day 1, all position players will be put through a showcase workout in which they will run 60s, take batting practice and be evaluated at their primary position. The following days players will compete in live game setting vs teams & top players from other states.

2023 RHP/1B Josh Butler (Sandra Day O'Connor)- 6-foot-6, 205-pounds, tall, proportionate long-levered body, moves extremely well for size. Competes as a two-way player with upside on both sides. Right-handed hitter, spread out base, squared neutral stance, rocks into back leg with leg lift, glides into front foot strike, short simple load. Handsy swing with above average pop & some feel for the barrel, pull approach, decent job staying back and adjusting. Pre-pitch hop, good timing. Above average athleticism for position, easy footwork. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash. Natural big target with long wingspan. Fields the ball out in front in the center of his body with soft hands. Average arm strength across the diamond with lower intent at 75mph. Continues to make big strides on the mound into the summer where he has seen more innings. Upper-body dominant delivery, 1B side of the rubber, small up & over leg kick, long stride, lands square with some early trunk rotation. Throws from a naturally higher release with long arm action, ¾ arm slot. FB was thrown with good extension with some natural ride through zone at times from higher release point, average movement profile currently, sat 87-88mph pretty consistently at our recent West Coast Select. Offspeed developing over time, throws a low spin CV was thrown with 11/5 shape. CH has slight sink/run at 76-77mph. Body & athleticism should provide upside on both sides of the ball, should improve significantly on the mound. Development should be followed.
