Event Preview - Preseason Underclass
March 11, 2021
The PBR MN Preseason Underclass event, for 2023 and 2024 grads, is coming to the St. Michael-Albertville Dome on Sunday, March 13th, 2021. This invite only showcase spotlights some of the best up-and-coming young talent from Minnesota and the surrounding region and has become a launching pad for freshman and sophomore prospects. Over the last five years; over 210 high school prospects, who attended this event, have made college commitments to continue their education and playing career.
Follow along throughout the event on both Twitter (@PBRMinnesota) and Instagram (@PBRMinnesota) as we will be updating you live throughout the entire event.
The first commitment that came off the board in the 2023 class was RHP Trevor Lee from East Ridge High School. Lee, who verballed to Wichita State back in January, will be in attendance on the 13th. A 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame has made big jumps in both his arm and body. The last time we saw him was back in March of 2020, then at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds and a fastball at 83-84 mph. One of the top arms in the class, will have a lot of eyes on him.
Spring Lake Park’s RHP/C Isaac Morton will make another appearance at the Preseason Underclass. Last summer's Future Games Participant, is a lean and long 6-foot-1, 164-pound body. Morton’s fastball ranges 82-86 mph and tops 87 mph. An athletic delivery, clean and quick arm action, and overall projection make Morton a hard follow on the mound. Also, a right-handed hitting catcher, Morton carries over his athleticism to behind the plate and the box. A 7.09 runner, 83 mph exit velocity, 80 mph arm strength and 2.00-2.13 pop times all which were from last summer. There is plenty to like about Morton’s overall game.
Two 2024s to keep eyes on are RHP Jack Morris and C Drew Rogers. Morris first came to an event last Fall back in October. The 6-foot-1, 140-pound two-way player out of Shakopee made quite the impression. A young frame that will continue to grow and fill out made a splash on the mound. Morris starts with a simple and repeatable delivery and clean arm action out of a ¾ arm slot. The fastball sits 78-79 mph and averages 2289 rpms. Feel for both a slider and change-up, Morris advanced feel for three pitches. Morris will be one of the younger arms to keep eyes on.
Mounds View’s Drew Rogers is currently ranked 183rd overall in PBR’s 2024 national rankings. At 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher, Rogers was a standout last summer at the Prospect ID- Minnetonka. An above average pop time and 2.00-2.09, arm 72 mph and bat are a solid combination that will continue to develop as he ages. Catchers are always a premium position and Rogers looks like he is trending to be one of the top in the 2024 class.
Over 125 uncommitted players will be in St. Michael on the 13th; representing their respective high schools from across the region.
A multitude of players will jump to the fore-front in their respective classes with their performances at the event; look forward to seeing everyone on March 13th!
