Class of 2022 All-Uncommitted Team

Paul Panaccione
Arizona Scouting Director

As we reach the end of the calendar year and turn the corner into 2022, we shine some light on some of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the 2022 class. With their senior season approaching, these players have proven they belong on the diamond at the next level. The recruiting process works in its own fashion for each individual, but by the end of the spring we expect these 15 prospects to have found their home.

2022 All-Uncommitted Team

OUTFIELD

Prince DeBoskie OF / OF / Hamilton , AZ / 2022

8/16/20

Prince DeBoskie, Hamilton  (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: OF/OF Athleticism & potential at the plate makes DeBoskie a high follow.
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Large frame, lean body, ultra athleticism, some fast twitch actions.
Hit: SH. Only hit from the RH side on the day; Starts in a relaxed base with feet shoulder width apart. Uses a gathered leg lift to build up energy before taking a short path to the baseball. Slightly upward swing with above average bat speed. Accelerates on-plane quickly with an efficient path. Quick time to contact.
Power: 100 mph exit velocity from the tee. Pull approach with consistent contact. Arguably the best BP display of the day, hitting a handful of balls out with easy effort.
Arm: Right-handed. OF - 84 mph. Short arm action from H3/4 slot. Passive thrower with more in the tank with added intent & momentum.
Defense: Quick athletic footwork, relaxed first step. Funnels the baseball with average glove & usable hands. Created angles & direction to target. Can be refined.
Run: 6.45 runner in the 60. Easy runner.

Sean Farney RHP / OF / Millennium , AZ / 2022

Sean Farney (Future Games Participant) is one of the top uncommitted 22s left in the class. We’ve seen upside from him on the mound and in the box, on Friday, Farney’s bat showed was in attendance. Farney will not get cheated at the plate. Strong build that produces some bat speed, and when he connects the ball jumps off the bat. Another bat that can do some damage for Millennium.

Tanner Holland OF / Hamilton, AZ / 2022

8/29/20

Tanner Holland, Hamilton (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: OF High ceiling prospect that has athleticism to stick in CF with some refinement.
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Lean ultra athletic build, present strength in balanced frame.
DefenseRaw actions that can be refined with plus athleticism. Fields the ball deep, choppy direct footwork, speed you can't teach. Firm hands.
ArmRight-handed. OF - 75 mph. Accuracy to the target with an average arm. Some length to transfer with low release.
HitRHH. Sets up in an athletic open stance with hands shoulder height. Uses a leg kick, landing open at times. Hands work slightly back with vertical barrel, some extra movement.  Turns barrel early with an upward plane, creating a pull approach. Consistent hard contact, upside. Showed bat speed with quickness in the hands.
Power: 97 mph exit velocity via trackman.
Run: 6.38 runner in the 60. Fastest player we have seen at an AZ event in 2020.

Ruben Villaescusa OF / RHP / Tucson, AZ / 2022

10/17/21

Ruben Villaescusa, Tucson (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Has some strength, size, and good actions. Upside as a two way prospect.
Body: 6-2, 200-pounds. Strong build, strength in lower half.
Hit: RHH. Simple setup, base outside out shoulder width slightly open. Hands are held just above the back shoulder with some rhythm. Loads onto back side and creates some separation with hands. Swing is flat and creates consistent hard contact. On ground balls to pull side he just gets a hair out front and can't hold his line any longer. Would benefit from pushing the ball back a bit and making contact from a stronger position, this would create more line drive contact to gaps. Overall swing works well with good bat speed.
Power: 100.76 max exit velocity, averaged 89.36 mph. 360’ max distance. Ball is impacted well with backspin flight.
Arm:  OF - 87 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Ball has slight 2 seam carry. Arm strength is good and throws were accurate.
Defense: Footwork and glove work is consistent. Takes some time to get the ball out in the OF, slower release time, but the arm strength is there. LF seems to be best spot defensively.
Run:  runner in the 60.

10/17/21

Delivery: Simple mechanics out of the windup and stretch. Uses a slide step out of the stretch. Good mix of pitches.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a 3/4 slot. Good mix of pitches with consistent release points.
FB: T85.71, 79.94-83.70 mph. Likes to work arm side and down with the FB. Has some good horizontal movement to it that will get in on RHH hands.  T2276, 2041 average rpm.
CB: 68.34-70.43 mph.  T1942, 1583 average rpm.
SL: 71.23-72.53 mph. Commanded well with some late break to it. When it starts middle and ends up on black away, that's when it's best.  T2088, 1902 average rpm.
CH: 72.00-73.56 mph. Throws with FB arm speed and has some horizontal break. Tends to fly open with front side and misses are side. When he stays closed and gets down the mound it's effective.  T773, 773 average rpm.

Infield

AJ Singer SS / 2B / Mountain Ridge, AZ / 2022

5-foot-9 160 pounds, Singer is one of the more interesting uncommitted talents in the 22 class. Smooth fielding infielder that can play all spots, with the ability to stick on the left side. Singer has some speed (6.67 60 yard), and has shown he has good base running instincts. Singer is a tough out at the plate, line drive gap to gap hitter with low strike out numbers. AJ Singer will be a high follow through the spring season.

Jaydan Israel SS / 2B / Desert Ridge, AZ / 2022

6/23/20

5-foot-10 140-pounds, thin athletic frame, medium build, athletic, plenty of room to add strength. Switch-hitting middle infielder. Some differences in approach. From the left side, starts in a slightly upright open stance, using a toe tap to land square. Wraps his bat around his head with flat entry into the zone. Mid/pull approach, 78mph exit velocity. From the right side, starts in a squared stance, using a leg kick trigger with mid/oppo approach. More pop & bat speed from the right side, 82mph exit velocity. Varied path from both sides. Clean athletic footwork in the infield. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. Took good angles. Fields the ball deep at times with quick hands. Quick short arm with 79mph arm strength across the diamond.

Trenton Harrington SS / RHP / Chaparral, AZ / 2022

6/24/20

6-foot-1 160-pounds, long projectable body, thin frame with room to add strength, some twitchy actions. Left-handed hitter starts in a spread-out base with balanced squared stance. Showed a toe tap and leg kick trigger, had more success and better timing with the leg kick. Starts with flat barrel wrapping around his head at time. Accelerates barrel on plane quickly with fast hands. Transfers energy into barrel with an aggressive pull approach, showing some ability to lift the baseball at 93mph exit velocity. Athletic actions in the infield, long choppy foot work, Ran a 6.93 60-yard dash. Fields ball out infront with two hands bringing to center of his body. Lower center of gravity with wide base. Gets to a power position with side shuffle, 84mph arm strength. Development should be followed.

Michael Williamson 3B / 1B / Seton Catholic Prep, AZ / 2022

6-foot-4 205 pounds, Michael Williamson is a corner infielder with a very projectable build and controlled actions. Williamson is a two sport athlete, currently wrapping up his senior football season playing wide receiver. Williamson has a simple set up at the plate, square to the pitcher and a base that is just outside of shoulder width, with the bat rested on his shoulder. The stride is short and direct to the pitcher, allowing him to stay grounded and keeps himself in a strong position to hit. The swing is flat, and produces a high rate of hard contact with true ball flight. Some length is created with the hands early, if that length is cut out, his bat path is efficient and he gets great extension through the baseball. Williamson's foot speed is about average for his size, but he's got graceful and soft actions at the two corner infield spots. A slight funnel action with the hands when fielding ground balls, and the arm has shown to be a tool of his. Arm strength plays well from the left side. Williamson is more than capable of playing a corner infield or outfield spot. Michael Williamson is a power potential corner guy with size and arm strength, an interesting follow through the 2022 spring season.

Ruben Castro SS / RHP / Tucson, AZ / 2022

6/18/19

Large physical two way prospect at 6’ 182lbs, good strength in legs with long arms, advanced approach to hitting, squared relaxed stance with small stride, strength & rhythm through swing, consistently barreled up baseball with controlled intent, good power to left field, 94mph exit velocity, On the mound- FB worked 82-85mph from overtop, average feel for CV at 62-64mph, arm looked stronger than 80mph across diamond, fielded balls cleanly with enough athleticism for 3B right now, strong two way prospect to follow.

Catchers

Preston Lucas C / 3B / Sandra Day O'Connor , AZ / 2022

5-foot-11 170 pounds, Lucas is a solid defensive catcher swinging from the left handed batters box. The bat path is efficient, he gives himself a high probability for hard contact and that showed when we saw him this week. He's got some strength, and ability to drive the ball to the gaps, with some pull side power potential. Lucas as fundamental actions defensively. Doesn't do too much while receiving, keeps strikes as strikes, and has the ability to control the running game. This is a great guy for O'Connor to have behind the plate for them in his senior season.

Roy Carrasco C / SS / Poston Butte, AZ / 2022

5-foot-8 170 pounds, Roy Carrasco may have been one of the biggest standouts on the weekend to our staff. Under the radar catcher out of Poston Butte High School, he commanded the game in his matchup against Desert Vista on Monday night. He called a great game, was on the same page as his starter, was on base multiple times, and swung the bat well. Carrasco's energy behind the plate was fantastic, blocking balls, throwing runners out and stealing strikes. Slightly undersized, and the bat profiles to be a contact/gap-to-gap hitter, but Carrasco possesses the intangibles a catcher should have on a winning ball club. Expect a move in the next rankings update.

Pitchers

Sebastian Tomerlin OF / LHP / Queen Creek, AZ / 2022

Sebastian Tomerlin is a great all-around athlete to be following through the spring season. As a two-sport athlete, Tomerlin has had great success under center for Queen Creek's football team, as well as a two way prospect for the baseball team. His athleticism and arm strength are evident tools he possesses, with some craft on the mound from the left side. Tomerlin's FB has been up to 89 mph with some arm side run that seems to create soft contact. Tomerlin will be a high follow for us through the spring.

Austin Balmes RHP / 3B / Corona Del Sol, AZ / 2022

8/16/20

Austin Balmes, Corona Del Sol (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Shows potential as a two-way player. Pitching is farther along with upside.
Body: 6-0, 161-pounds. Large projectable frame, athletic body, long torso & arms.
Defense: Starts in wide base pre-pitch, stays low using choppy feet with athletic actions. Quick & confident first step. Fields the ball out in front with two hands, late glove flip at times. Soft hands.
ArmRight-Handed. INF - 83 mph. Gets to power position to throw. Strong arm with some carry to the bag, quick release.
Hit: RHH. Sets up in an athletic, squared base. Uses a balanced leg lift with some forward movement. Clean load with short swing. Stays inside the baseball with quick hands.
Power90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Hard line drive contact with a middle approach. Showed some ability to lift the baseball.
Run7.15 runner in the 60.

DeliveryAthletic clean delivery with easy effort. Creates direction coming down the mound. Lands slightly closed with athletic finish. Falls of to 1B side at times.
Arm Action: Right-Handed. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot with short loose arm action, quick arm. Ball jumps out of his hand a bit.
FBT84, 81-84 mph. Some trouble locating on day, missed down.
CB: 65-68 mph. Some tightness, 2116rpm.
SL: 70-73 mph. Slutter action.
CH: 71-74 mph. Sink/run

Michael Trausch LHP / Desert Vista, AZ / 2022

Trausch is a pretty interesting arm. Very under the radar, one of the players who has been effected greatly by the COVID year. 6-foot-2 180 pounds, Trausch is long limbed and throws from a tough angle across his body. Trausch's FB will sit 84-86 mph, and recently has been clocked in the high 80's, touching 89 mph in his outing in the Team Emery Classic. His FB has + arm side run to it, when his command is on he can be very effective with just the FB alone. His CH is his go to secondary pitch that has good depth to it, and throws a slurve that is tough on LHH and will back foot to RHH. If Trausch can stay in the upper 80's with the FB and command it, he could be a high follow through the year and a great get for a lot of Universities around the country.

Easton Luge LHP / Chandler Online Academy, AZ / 2022

Easton Luge is another left handed arm in the 2022 class that has shown some promise. He commands the fastball to the outer half of the plate with intent with some arm side run. The CH is kept down at the bottom of the zone keeping hitters off balanced and he uses it as an out pitch and to keep hitters off balance. Arm speed is good and we've seen the fastball run up to 86 mph. The breaking ball has some downward action and is clocked around 65-69 mph. This is another good left handed arm to follow through the spring.
