In cool conditions on opening day for high schools in the state, Basha started their season with a 7-1 win over defending state champions Kellis. Senior Dalin Baldwin tossed five strong innings for Basha, allowing only one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts. Grand Canyon signee Seth Beckstead provided all the offense Basha would need with a first inning home run. Kellis senior shortstop and Tennessee signs Jonathan Ornelas produced the only Kellis run with an opposite field home run. Grand Canyon commit Ty Sifferman also produced two hits, two runs and two RBI's for Basha.
