2021 Rankings Edition
December 29, 2017
Stepping into high school, the 2021 class has seemingly pressed the start button for some schools on the recruiting process as 45 players on the recently updated and expanded Overall Rankings have committed to schools. Although college is much too far in the distance for the majority of players to make a decision, their projectable talent and high ceilings are, sometimes, clearly evident, and thus warrant the attention of recruiters trying to get ahead in the process. This week, On the Hunt, takes a look at seven players from the 2021 rankings who feature high ceilings, and could make big jumps in the future. Of the seven there are two left-handed pitchers, two outfielders, an infielder, a two-way prospect, and a power right-handed arm. Players hail from Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Brock Selvidge LHP / OF / Hamilton, AZ / 2021Selvidge looks to be the premier left-handed arm in the class of 2021. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder has a polished delivery well ahead of his years. At a recent PBR Arizona event, Selvidge executed a mature bullpen session as comfortably pounded the zone with three pitches. Repeating his delivery with ease, Selvidge methodically works his fastball in and out at 84-86 while touching 87 mph. He delivers out of a high ¾ slot with quick hand speed out front. His slurvy breaking ball (72-74) and changeup (77-79) are each controlled in the zone, and show strong signs of developing into above average pitches in the future. A gifted athlete, Selvidge also shows the ability to swing the bat from the right side. Utilizing a slight leg hang with a deep hands load, Selvidge works uphill with strength and quickness through the zone. Still maturing physically, there is much more to come for Selvidge both on the mound and at the plate, and recruiters will want to mark him down a must follow throughout the spring and into the summer. |
