Yellowhammer State Games: Quick Hits, Outfielders

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

ALBERTVILLE, AL - The inaugural Yellowhammer State Games was held on Tuesday, June 18th and Wednesday, June 19th at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville, AL. This event was the premier invite-only event of the summer that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2025-2028 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during a gameplay setting with a monitored pitch count and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we dive into some of the top outfielders from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release quick hits articles, other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Carson Mann OF / Vestavia Hills High School, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. One of the premier uncommitted athletes in the 2025 class in Alabama with present strength to proportional frame. Continues to show up at events and perform at a high-level after a strong spring for one of the top programs in Class 7A. Balanced left-handed stance with minimal pre-pitch movement. Short, simple stride allows him to be on-time and works the barrel on an uphill plane through the zone. Plenty of strength at contact and heavy, whippy barrel meets the ball for higher exits. Has the numbers and metrics to back up his performance at the event, posting a 6.60 60-yard dash, working up to 83 mph from the OF, and registering a top EV of 98.8 mph during his round of BP. Superior athleticism with good physical strength. Also performed during gameplay with an absolute no-doubter to LCF. Definite uncommitted name to know in the 2025 class in Alabama who should not be uncommitted for too much longer.

Cole Miles OF / Hartselle High School, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 179-pounds. Mature frame with good combination of strength/athleticism and room to add mass in the future. A notable riser in the recent Class of 2026 Rankings released a couple weeks ago after a noteworthy spring, and followed it up with a strong showing at this event. Now inside the top-15 in the class, the right-hander took a professional round of BP and didn't look to be chasing a number, instead trying to drive the ball back up the middle and to the opposite-field gap, which he did fairly routinely. Has the ability to repeat his swing using a simple forward movement and a quicker stride as a timing trigger. Utilizies the strength well and showcases some bat speed in the shorter swing. Will only continue to improve down the road as his frame continues to fill out and adds more strength. Clocked a 6.70 60-yard dash and was up to 85 mph from the OF during the defensive workout. High-level follow in the 2026 class in Alabama as the all-important August 1st recruiting date approaches.

Slade Bounds OF / Spain Park High School, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 195-pounds. Advanced physicality for a prospect of his age and is used well. Possesses some of the louder tools currently in the 2027 class in Alabama and put them on full display at this week's event. Just some monstrous power potential down the road and is showing the ability to hit for some now. Generates such easy pull-side pop from the right side of the plate and led the event with a top EV of 100.9 mph and recorded a max estimated distance of 359 ft. Creates tons of torque on rotation using a strong lower-half and has some elite Blast Motion metrics for a prospect of his age; 21.9 mph avg. hand speed, 76.8 mph avg. bat speed, 19.2 G's of rotational acceleration. For being so physical and strong at a young age, Bounds is an above-average athlete posting a 1.73 10 YD, 3.87 30 YD, & 6.80 YD. Really having a strong summer so far and is a big name in the rising sophomore class in Alabama to monitor over the next couple of years.

Clayton Rice OF / American Christian, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 191-pounds. One of the more impressive frames at the event with definite strength throughout. Also a well-rounded athlete and showcased some above-average tools during the workout. Has really added some strength since the last viewing in January and appears to be paying off while still maintaining the athleticism. Intriguing left-handed bat who flashed pull-side pop during his round of BP while registering some higher exits and a top EV of 96.5 mph. Belted multiple deep drives to RF throughout the round and recorded a max estimated distance of 353 ft. Plenty of strength at the point of impact with easy carry off the barrel. Gets on-plane early with the bat and extends through contact nicely. Has some arm strength from the OF working up to 85 mph and has played some infield in the past. Certainly passes the eye test in the box and looks the part from the left side. Clocked a 6.87 60-yard dash during the workout and continues to boost his stock in each look. Had some big swings during the Class 4A State Championship last month and is certainly another high-follow prospect this summer in the 2026 class in Alabama.

Jace Duckett OF / Madison County High School, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 173-pounds. Lean, high-waisted build with limitless projection with future strength to be added. One of our picks to click for this spring and summer and appears to be just scratching the surface of his potential. Possesses some two-way intrigue, but the left-handed bat caught the attention during this event with a quality round of BP and carried it over into gameplay. Hits from a balanced setup with rhythm and athleticism, and showcased some easy lag to the barrel on an opposite-field double on a two-strike fastball during gameplay. Has good feel for the barrel with big-time power potential down the road and a current feel to hit currently. Doubles as a talented southpaw on the mound with the same type of potential, working in the low-80s with a tight slider from a deceptive 3/4 arm slot. Fairly easy to dream on down the road and is another highly-ranked prospect in the 2027 class in Alabama who will one to follow closely over the next couple of years.

Braden Abernathy OF / Buckhorn High School, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Wiry frame with elite athleticism and loud tools across the board. A bit of an under-the-radar prospect in the 2025 class in Alabama, but shouldn't be for much longer after his performance at this week's event. Balanced, athletic right-handed stance with a simple stride for timing trigger. More of a line-drive approach with the ability to spray firm contact to all fields. Was near the top of most statistical categories from the event. Clocked a blazing 6.66 60-yard dash, worked up to 91 mph from the OF, and registered a top EV of 94.2 mph during his round of BP. Per Blast Motion, he posted a 24.6 mph avg. hand speed (2nd), 77.8 mph avg. bat speed, and 25.5 G's of avg. rotational acceleration (2nd), as well. Possesses some upper-body strength to his frame with a chance to add more down the road. Continues to impress after seeing him at a scout day earlier this summer, and is certainly a quality uncommitted prospect in the rising senior class in Alabama to see this summer.

Davis Kelley OF / Helena High School, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 164-pounds. Medium build with solid athleticism throughout. Another talented uncommitted outfielder in the rising junior class in Alabama who contiunes to put together strong showings at numerous events. Coming off a noteworthy spring for one of the better programs in Class 6A after earning a spot and providing some valuable contributions down the stretch as one of the few underclassmen starters. Hits from a slightly-crouch stance and has a simple load. Gap-to-gap hitter who possesses some above-average bat speed for his age. Can hit to all fields using his approach and has a strong feel for the barrel from the right side of the plate. Has shown glimpses of power over the past couple of looks and will continue to hit for more as he gains strength. Also clocked a 7.00 60-yard dash and worked up to 87 mph from the OF with some accuracy to the plate. Another noteworthy outfielder in the 2026 class in Alabama to follow for the next year.

Cayden Boutwell OF / Enterprise High School, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 161-pounds. Uber-athletic prospect who can ues his athleticism to impact the game at the plate and on the base paths. Has some present strength to his frame. Slightly-crouched setup with good balance and rhythm throughout his offensive operation. Has some feel to hit but can also hit for some pull-side power. Really got off a strong start this spring and was named the Mizuno Player of the Week for Week 1 of the high school season. Showcases some present speed and whip to the right-handed barrel. Tracks the ball well in the outfield with above-average arm strength working up to 87 mph from the outfield, and also clocked a lightning-quick 6.52 60-yard dash during the workout, which was fifth-best from the event. Good makeup and baseball IQ. Another talented and athletic uncommitted outfielder in the 2025 class in Alabama to know for this summer.
