North Alabama Fall ID: Quick Hits
October 29, 2024
MADISON, AL - The North Alabama Fall ID was held on Sunday, October 27th at James Clemens High School in Madison, AL. This event was an open event hosting some talented prospects from the 2025-2029 classes in Alabama. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during a gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement during simulated bullpens. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top performers from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Dalton Dardin RHP / SS / Virgil Grissom, AL / 2027Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 157-pounds. Lean, athletic build with more strength to be added. Has already added 10 pounds since the summer, and has seen his velocity climb from 81-82 mph to the upper-80s in just a few short months. A two-way prospect, but appears to have more ability and upside on the mound. Athletic delivery with a long, loose arm action that has quickness to it. Pitched at 86-87 mph and topped at 87.6 mph during his bullpen, showing natural arm-side run coming out of a H 3/4 arm slot. Also displayed a feel for spin on his sharp-biting curveball that ranged 72-74 mph, spinning north of 2600 RPM and showing hard, late 11-5 bite and depth to it. Possesses a changeup as a third offering, ranging 78-79 mph with good fade and the same arm-side action as the fastball. Smooth, athletic actions down the rubber with quality movement patterns and more upticks coming. Can swing it from the left side of the plate, but ability on the mound certainly jumped out as one of the better Class of 2027 pitchers we've seen this fall.

Tayte Dunn C / 3B / Northridge, AL / 2026Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 177-pounds. Medium, projectable build with some athleticism. Arguably had one of the best rounds of BP from the event, showcasing a smooth right-handed swing that lived on the barrel and produced consisten line drives to all fields. Hits from an upright position and separates well during his load, pushing his hands back before leading an accurate barrel through the zone on a mostly upward path. Showcases a strong feel for the barrel and has translated his offensive production multiples times to gameplay as shown during the summer at LakePoint Sports. Posted a top EV of 95.9 mph while consistently finding the sweet spot throughout his round. Also possesses quality defensive ability from behind the plate, where he stood out in multiple facets of the event. Posted 2.05-2.09 pop times and a C velocity of 77 mph, both event-bests, and was one of the better receivers catching pitchers during the bullpen portion of the workout. Well-rounded prospect who should be on the follow lists moving into the off-season and into the spring season.

Matthew Drinkwater 3B / RHP / James Clemens, AL / 2026Rankings StateRank: 95 / POS: 5
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 181-pounds. Lean, athletic build with room to add. Notable two-way prospect who continues to make strides and improvements to all parts of his game, and showcased as one of the better prospects on both sides of the ball at the event. Possesses a quick, repeatable right-handed swing that produced firm contact to the pull-side throughout his round of BP, and worked up to a top EV of 97.7 mph, which was second-best from the event. Simple trigger for timing and works the barrel on a mostly upward path and does a good job staying short throughout his swing. Also proved to be one of the better pitchers to throw during the event, where he worked 85-86 mph and registered spin rates around 2400 RPM and an average induced vertical break of 19.2 mph. Combine those metrics with a higher, over-the-top arm slot, and it makes his fastball carry through the zone well and play up a bit. Can also rip a pair of distinct breaking balls, one being a 74-75 mph curveball (2250 RPM) and the other a shorter 79-81 mph slider (2450 RPM). Also turned over a few changeups at 81-82 mph. Pitches exclusively from the stretch and has good strike-throwing ability. Already has some varsity innings under his belt, and will surely see his workload increase this spring.

Brooks Rhodes OF / James Clemens, AL / 2026Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 147-pounds. Lean, athletic frame. High-contact left-handed bat who kicked off the BP portion of the event with a quality round of BP, spraying firm contact to all parts of the field. Balanced setup from the left side of the plate with weight sitting on his back hip. Utilizes a quick, simple toe-tap trigger for timing and is short to contact with some present bat speed. Showed a natural feel for the barrel during his round, and posted a top EV of 92.3 mph. Barrel stays on-plane well and works on a mostly upward path through contact. Line-drive type hitter with a more present hit tool, and appears to be a top-of-the-order type who can move the ball around and utilize his athletic skill set to his advantage. Posted a top OF velocity of 87 mph and clocked a 6.99 60-yard dash, both of which were event-bests.

Taylor White 1B / RHP / Hartselle, AL / 2029Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 151-pounds. Lean, high-waisted build with obvious projection and development to come in the future, but already possesses some advanced skills and ability. The youngest prospect in attendance at the event, but certainly looked the part of a future big-time prospect if he contines to develop his skills and mature into his frame. Simple right-handed operation with a shorter load for timing. Present whip and bat speed to his swing. Shows the ability to lag the barrel through the zone with a more linear, connected swing while staying through contact well. Barrel works on an upward path through contact. More line drives to gaps during his round of BP with a top EV of 87.6 mph, but should continue to see higher volumes of power output in the future. Certainly an early name to follow in the Class of 2029 for the next few years.

Chris Fitts 3B / OF / East Limestone, AL / 2026Rankings StateRank: 110 / POS: 6
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 207-pounds. Strong, physical build. Another quality junior prospect who shined during the offensive portion of the workout with one of the louder rounds of BP. Slightly-crouched stance and generates strength from the ground-up using his lower-half. Possesses a quick load and has a more compact right-handed swing. Gap-to-gap strength at the plate with power potential. Showcases a quick barrel through the zone, measuring an event-best 74.1 mph average bat speed, per Blast Motion. Posted a top EV of 100.7 mph, an event-best. Has arm strength from the hot corner working up to 85 mph across the infield during the defensive portion of the workout. Also a decent athlete for his size, clocking a 7.29 60-yard dash. Another quality uncommitted prospect in the 2026 class in Alabama who will be one to follow moving into the off-season and the spring season.
