Mizuno Pitcher of the Week: Week 5

Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year, we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Special thank you to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season and for the high school coaches who nominated their players for this award.
Continuing from last year, we will also be highlighting other players from across the state in our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Wednesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week.

Miles Edwards RHP / SS / Lauderdale County, AL / 2024Rankings StateRank: 120 / POS: 33
Edwards was virtually unhittable in his start against a quality program ranked inside the top-10 in Class 2A this past week, and tossed a complete-game shutout while earning the win in a 1-0 victory. A Wallace-Hanceville CC recruit, the senior right-hander is a two-way star for the Tigers and has been for the past few years, but his impact on the mound last week was what really stood out. In his start that went into extra innings tied at 0-0, Edwards worked all eight of those innings without allowing a run and yielded just one hit on the night. The only other baserunner would reach on a walk, but would go on to strikeout a total of 15 hitters during the outing. He'll look to continue to be the leader on both sides of the ball for Lauderdale County this spring. |
