Future Games: Team Alabama, Catcher Takeaways

From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, Prep Baseball is hosting the next edition of its prestigious Future Games at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA., featuring the country's best uncommitted talent. And, for the first time ever, the Future Games is hosting not just its typical set of incoming juniors and freshmen, but also a 17U division of uncommitted Class of 2025 players who will participate in the inaugural Senior Future Games.

On the first day of the 2024 Future Games, all players representing grad classes 2025, 2026, and 2028 will be participating in a pro-style workout in front of a fleet of Division I coaches alongside fellow prospects representing nearly every state in the nation.

Inside this piece, we'll be breaking down some of the top performers and listing our takeaways from Team Alabama the the four-day event at LakePoint Sports.

Catchers

+ C Jaylen Crocker (American Christian, 2026) is regarded as the top-ranked uncommitted backstop in the 2026 class in Alabama, and while outside of nothing to show for in the box score in a small sample size, there's still plenty left to be intrigued about. Measuring in at 6-foot-2, 188-pounds, the junior backstop certainly passes the eye test with an impressive, mature frame. Offensively, the right-hander hits from a wider stance and uses a compact swing while staying through contact with the baseball well. He's tapped into some power recently with a solid overall feel to hit, and showed it during his round of BP with consistent line drives to all fields. From the crouch, the catch-and-throw skills are above-average showing pop times ranging 1.93-2.06 and registering a top C velocity of 74 mph, both of which should continue to improve. He does a good job of receiving with strong wrists and the ability to stick pitches on the corners, while also being able to be an efficient blocker. There is some future upside as he continues to develop his frame and as a prospect.

+ C Wells Ganey (Ariton, 2026) is another highly-ranked uncommitted prospect in the 2026 class in Alabama who represented Team Alabama at the Future Games. Sporting a smaller build at 5-foot-5, 169-pounds, Ganey still packs a punch with good proportional strength to his frame and compliments it with surprising athleticism for a catcher. Nobody had a bigger swing from Team Alabama on the week like Ganey did, as he belted a walk-off, three-run home run over the left field wall in Game 2 of the event against Arkansas. Using a strong base and simple operation, the backstop shows an upward path through the zone with a short right-handed swing. While facing some elite-level arms on the week and not having much to show for in the box score outside of the home run, Ganey has shown he has a strong feel for the barrel using a contact-oriented approach that can hit for some extra bases. Defensively, he possesses a lightning-quick transfer with above-average arm strength and accuracy to the second-base bag. Posted 1.83-1.91 pop times, 77 mph C velocity, and clocked a 6.96 60-yard dash, as well.
