Birmingham Summer ID: Quick Hits

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

GARDENDALE, AL - The Birmingham Summer ID was held on Wednesday, June 26th at Gardendale High School in Gardendale, AL. This event was an open event hosting some talented prospects from the 2025-2027 classes in Alabama. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during a simulated bullpen and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we dive into some of the top performers from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release quick hits articles, other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Wyatt Williams RHP / OF / Thompson High School, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Strong, work-horse type build and should carry more down the road. Has been a name who has always been able to swing it from the right side with pop, but the right-handed arm was what made a big impression at this event and may even hold more upside. Clean, methodical delivery with really easy operation. Ball comes out of the hand really clean and easy while sitting mostly 84-85 mph throughout his bullpen while also showing the ability to reach back and grab an 89.3 mph, as well. The fastball possesses sizable sink and carry through the zone with future jumps likely. Showcased a consistent feel for a 72-74 mph slider that spun 2200-2400 RPM with good horizontal bite to it and has the makings off a swing-and-miss pitch working off of his fastball. Can also really turn over the changeup sitting 75-76 mph with arm-side fade, making for a quality third offering to round out his arsenal. Lots of intriguing components to like, including the ease of operation and the physical stature. Also showed off his usual gap-to-gap pop during BP with consistent low-90 EVs and good strength at contact. Intriguing two-way prospect in the 2026 class in Alabama to know.

Braden McCrary RHP / Hueytown High School, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 161-pounds. Lean, super high-waisted frame with long limbs and intriguing projection. Possesses a live right-handed arm with elite metrics across the board. Quick, up-tempo delivery and works aggressive down the mound. Operated 84-87 mph with his fastball that displays plenty of riding life through the zone during his bullpen with a potential for more to come in the future as he continues to add strength. Possesses one of the better breaking balls we've seen this summer with elite spin and tons of downward bite, sitting 73-76 mph and spinning up to 3050 RPM in this look. Also flashed a power changeup at 84 mph with arm-side action and a heavy feel to it. Has big-time stuff and can be occassionally effectively wild, but has a wipeout breaking ball with the highest spin rate from a high school pitcher that we've seen over the past few years. Definitely a high-level follow in the 2025 class in Alabama.

Will Weaver OF / Mountain Brook High School, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Athletic build with present proportional strength to frame. Easily took one of the loudest rounds of BP from the event with multiple balls sent over the RF fence throughout. Just some elite bat speed through the zone (79.0 mph avg.) and a good usage of his strong lower-half allows him to impact the baseball at a high-level, registered numerous mid-90 EVs throughout the round and a top EV of 99.8 mph, an event-best. Short, twitchy left-handed stroke flashing intriguing pull-side pop and power. Recorded multiple ball hit over 330 ft. Also a well-rounded athlete who clocked a 6.93 60-yard dash during the workout and moved well in the outfield with accurate throws to the plate. Experienced some playing time for one of the top programs in Class 6A this past spring and already has multiple HRs this summer. Another high-level prospect to follow in the 2025 class in Alabama.

Cooper Mullins C / Homewood High School, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 165-pounds. Strong, durable frame with prototypical catcher's build. Good blend of pop from the right side and defensive ability from the crouch. Possesses a smooth right-handed swing with good rhythm throughout. Showcased a strong feel for the barrel during BP while driving balls gap-to-gap with a top EV of 92.3 mph. Has a physical lower-half and hits from a strong base. Mostly level path through the zone and does a good job of staying short and direct to the baseball. Mature round of BP while catching the sweet spot of the barrel with nearly each swing. Skilled defender behind the plate while showing a quick transfer with solid arm strength and accuracy to the second-base bag. Talented backstop in the 2026 class in Alabama.
