Alabama HS Team Preview: Albertville Aggies

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Albertville Aggies endured a tough 2023 campaign missing out on the Class 7A playoffs and finishing at the bottom of their area with Sparkman Huntsville, and Grissom. This spring, the Aggies will look to some new and younger faces to help pave the way and set the foundation for future success.

While the Aggies are pitted in a tough area that includes three of the top programs in northern part of the state, Coach Kinney and co. are excited about some of the returners they have coming back and a few underclassmen that have a chance to make a real on impact on this year this year. They will need to look to some of those upperclassmen for leadership, however, as they only return two positional starters and one pitcher from last year's team. C Gavin Jones (2024) and OF/3B Conner Lewis (2024) are those two positional starters and both bring back valuable experience from last year's season. Both will be pieces to their success this spring both as offensive contributors and leaders inside the locker room. RHP Trenton Croghan (2025) returns this spring after seeing some innings on the mound in 2023 as a sophomore, and will only see his workload increase moving into this year. The junior right-hander posssesses a low-to-mid-80s fastball to compliment his changeup, which is his best secondary offering. 1B Aden O'Rourke (2025) came up at the end of last year's season and is looking to hit in the middle of the Aggies' order this spring. He's a physical corner infielder with plenty of pop in his right-handed bat. RHP Wesley Knight (2025) is another arm the Aggies will need to step into a larger role this spring, as he also works in the low-to-mid-80s on the mound.

While many of these upperclassmen returners should help lead the way in 2024, the Aggies are excited about some of the younger prospects they have inside their program, with some looking to make an impact as eary as this year. UTL/RHP Kade Anderson (2026) is a do-it-all type player who can play anywhere on the field defensively and possesses a live arm on the mound to go along with a good breaking ball. 3B/RHP Max Williams (2026) is another sophomore that has a chance to play a two-way role for the Aggies this spring, as he works in the low-80s on the mound and can swing it at the plate. 3B Bralyn Baugh (2027) is another to name to follow this spring, as he has a chance to get into the mix at the varsity level and get some at-bats as a freshman, as well. Albertville will rely on some newer faces in this spring, but it looks like they have some quality pieces across the board to have a successful 2024 campaign.
