AL/MS Border Battle: Alabama Quick Hits, Infielders

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

BOONEVILLE, MS - The AL/MS Border Battle was held on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th at Northeast Mississippi CC in Booneville, MS. This event was an invite-only event hosting some talented prospects from the 2025-2028 classes in Alabama. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement while facing live hitters in simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top overall performers from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release quick hits articles, other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Paul Barnett SS / RHP / Mountain Brook, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 167-pounds. Another highly-ranked sophomore in attendance for Team Alabama, coming at No. 5 overall in the 2027 class in Alabama. Has arguably made the biggest strides out of anyone in his class over the past year, and shattered his previous statistics/metrics at this past weekend's event. Possesses a slim, projectable frame that will continue to add mass over the next few years and is already showing the advanced skills on the diamond to pair. Hits from a taller setup from the right side and coils his hips well during his load for timing. Shows the ability to impact the baseball at a high-level already with a top EV of 100.8 mph during his round of BP. Has shown flashes of power with a more present hit tool right now, but will only continue to see higher volumes of slug in the future. Elite bat speed for a sophomore, 85.3 mph max bat speed and 79.2 mph avg. Smooth, rangy defender up the middle with crisp footwork. Plus arm strength across the diamond working up to 92 mph. Started at shortstop as a freshman this past spring for one of the top programs in Class 6A. Possesses some two-way intrigue with a fastball that works in the mid-80s and may have as high of an upside there, as well.

Noah Eady 3B / Oak Mountain, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 193-pounds. Solid build with proportional strength. Also a well-rounded athlete. Has come onto the radar over the past year after starting for Oak Mountain last spring and a standout showing at the Alabama Fall Games and performed well this weekend, too. Possesses impact ability from the right side of the plate with a more gap-to-gap approach at the plate. Swung it well during BP and in gameplay with a pair of hits. Upright stance with hands higher pre-pitch. Controlled load allows for timing and the ability to sync up. Hits from a strong base and incorporates a stronger lower-half and generates strength from the ground up. Mostly level path with quick barrel and ability to click firm contact to all fields. Clocked a 7.22 60-yard dash during the workout; was 7.18 in August. Showed some arm strength working up to 86 mph across the infield. Offensive-minded infielder who could easily slide to second base in the future. Middle-of-the-order type uncommitted hitter in the 2025 class in Alabama who will be one to follow this off-season and into the spring.

Brody Sabo 3B / Thompson, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Athletic, high-waisted build with projectable strength down the road. Another prospect for Team Alabama who has really made a name for himself over the past few months. Impressed at the TPL Scout Day in August and continued to flash more of the same athletic ability during this past weekend's event. Has set a quality baseline of tools during his first two Prep Baseball events. Above-average athlete who clocked a 7.08 60-yard dash during the workout. Smooth defender with good footwork and some arm strength across. Should continue to stick on the left side of the infield in the future. More of a line-drive hitter with hit tool carrying right now, but power should continue to rise as he develops into his frame and adds strength. Compact right-handed swing and keeps the barrel in the zone for a while. Gap-to-gap hitter who showed some ability to spray this weekend. Took good at-bats during gameplay with a triple to LCF and a deep F8 facing mid-80s. An intriguing sophomore prospect who will be one to keep close tabs on this spring for powerhouse Thompson.

Joshua Wilhide 1B/RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 195-pounds. Proportional strength to build. Notable two-way prospect who starred on both sides of the ball this past weekend. Routinely on the barrel during his round of BP with consistent line drives to the pull-side gap. Has impact ability with good strength at the point of contact. Whippy barrel with pull-side pop. Registered a top EV of 98.3 mph. Possesses above-average bat speed averaging 77.6 mph and maxing at 83.9 mph. Continued to swing it well during gameplay with his best swing of the weekend being a line drive to LF for an L7. Also hopped on the mound for three innings and was efficient. Sitting 80-84 mph mostly throughout while touching 86 mph with consistently 18-20 in. of induced vertical break. Breaking ball ranged 73-75 mph with tight spin and good depth to it while also mixing in a 75-78 mph fading changeup. Quality two-way prospect in the 2026 class in Alabama to follow this off-season and moving into the spring.

Noah Crosby 1B / Mountain Brook, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 223-pounds. Imposing figure in the box with physicality. Performed well with the bat all weekend long and proved to be a primary run-producer for the Upperclass team with multiple hits. Narrow, upright stance with bigger leg kick for timing. Creates quality separation with the hands and looks to lift to the pull-side with good intent and authority. Some length to swing, but ball jumps off for higher exits when he squares it up. Posted a top EV of 96.0 mph with a max estimated distance of 371 ft. during his round of BP. Took quality at-bats during gameplay on Sunday with a deep flyout to the warning track in LF in his first at-bat, and followed it up with a run-scoring single to CF to tie the game up later in the contest. Middle-of-the-order type hitter. Another sophomore prospect to follow this spring.

Jesse Isensee SS / James Clemens, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 169-pounds. Athletic build and has added some strength since the spring. Recent move-in from Nevada last year and has made a strong name for himself ever since. Earned a starting spot on the infield for James Clemens as a sophomore this past spring and continues to trend upward. Contact-oriented right-handed hitter with a natural feel for the barrel. Wider stance and uses his lower-half throughout the swing. Has controlled aggression and helps produce firm gap-to-gap contact with a quality hit tool. Gets on-plane early during the swing and stays through contact well. All-fields hitter and has a professional approach at the plate. Well-rounded athlete who clocked a 7.12 60-yard dash during the workout. Possesses quick feet on the infield with a reliable glove. Some arm strength across. Probably fits best right now at second base but can play the shortstop position. Appears to have a high baseball IQ and plays with great energy on the diamond.

Walker Sellars 1B / Madison Academy, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 198-pounds. Physical build with noticeable strength added to build since last fall. Easy to see the improvements he's made ever since attending last fall's AL/MS Border Battle and it appears to be paying off with a strong weekend with the bat for Team Alabama. Hits from a narrow base and is slightly crouched. Simple forward movement for load with some coil and separation. Showed some feel for the barrel during BP using a mostly upward path, allowing him to drive balls with some authority to the pull-side and creating some leverage in the process. Solid blend of hit and power tool, and showed both of during gameplay. Recorded mutliple hits across both games, including a double into the RCF gap and another single to RF on Sunday. Simple swing with noticeable strength. Another prospect who will be worth following his continued progession over the next few years.
