Updated 2025 Alabama Player Rankings

The summer of 2022 coming to a close means it's time to revisit the player rankings for all three classes, and next up is the Class of 2025. We've been able to get a true & honest look at most of these prospects this summer, whether it be at tournaments at LakePoint Sports, a showcase setting or at a high school game this past spring. This class has continued to fill out over the past year with numerous prospects that made a splash onto the scene this spring and summer.

It's going to be fun to see where all of these players end up, as many of them still have plenty of maturing to come heading into their sophomore seasons of high school baseball. Let's take a look at how this class stacks up after the summer of 2022.

 

The Top-5

+ Following a stellar spring that ultimately led to his commitment to Auburn, RHP Fleming Hall (Trinity Presbyterian) takes over the No. 1 spot in this update. After seeing him twice this spring on the mound, it was easy to see the special talent Hall possessed while serving as a starter in the rotation as a freshman for the eventual Class 3A State Champions. Hall has been up to 91 mph with his fastball and gets hard arm-side run while spinning a sharp slider in the mid-70's. He pitched some big games this spring showing elite competitiveness while finding success at such a young age.

+ Coming in at No. 2, OF Damien Gatson (Mobile Christian) certainly seemed to take that next step this summer after establishing himself as a top prospect last summer. Standing 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, the left-handed hitting outfielder uses an easy short-to-long operation with a quick barrel through the zone and elite athleticism. Although being a 2025 prospect, Gatson did more than hold his own at the PBR Future Games this summer, going 2-for-4 with two RBI's and three walks at the event against quality competition. High upside player who only continues to get better.

+ LHP Mason McCraine (Glenwood) bolts all the way up to No. 3 while making his debut on the list in this update after a solid showing the PBR Future Games this summer. Standing 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, the recent Auburn recruit has plenty to dream on with a fastball that reached 87 mph at LakePoint Sports this summer. McCraine possesses an easy, clean delivery and also showed the ability to drop in a gradual breaking ball at 68-70 mph with two-plane depth as his primary secondary.

+ 3B Caleb Barnett (Mountain Brook) is a name that some in AL may not be familiar with, as he has recently moved from Pennsylvania to Alabama but has already made an impact in the state and committed to Alabama. Debuting at No. 4 in this update, Barnett has garnered plenty of praise from the PA staff with his highly projectable 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame with long levers. Barnett has immense power potential hitting from the right side while impacting the ball at a high level with quality bat speed.

+ Staying inside the Top-5, RHP/OF Wade Shelley (Houston Academy) possesses intriguing two-way ability with a strong & athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. In our first viewing of the Auburn recruit this spring, the sophomore worked his fastball up to 91 mph in a brief relief stint for one of the top programs in Class 3A showing decent command in the process. The two-way prospect also has quality tools from the right side with power potential and athleticism while maintaining that same arm strength on throws from the outfield.

 

Notable Risers & Newcomers

+ C Hudson Gilman (Oxford) rises inside the Top-10 to No. 6 after a strong summer capped off at the PBR Future Games with Team Alabama. The physical backstop stands a strong & durable 6-foot-0, 195-pounds and is built like a prototypical catcher with quality offensive and defensive skills to compliment. The sophomore works gap-to-gap in his approach with power potential and showed multiple low-90 EV's during BP this summer. He's posted numerous sub-2.0 pop times with a top catcher velocity at 80 mph, which is advanced for his age.

+ 3B/RHP Ma'Kale Holden (Hoover) also jumps into the Top-10 coming right behind Gilman at No. 7. An Alabama recruit, Holden is advanced physically at 6-foot-0, 180-pounds with intriguing two-way ability. At the plate, the sophomore corner infielder has a chance to have some of the power in the class hitting from the right side, and also has shown the ability to work in the mid-80's on the mound with solid secondaries to compliment. With his size and ability as a two-way threat, Holden should only continue to get better over the next couple years playing for one of the top programs in the state.

+ SS/RHP Christian Helmers (Hewitt-Trussville) certainly has the making to be one of the top two-way prospects in the class, as he debuts at No. 15 in this update. Listed at 6-foot-3, 165-pounds, Helmers was a standout in numerous outings this summer, whether it be at the Excel Scout Day or at tournaments at LakePoint Sports. Athletic swing from the right side with extension and bat speed offensively, and was up to 88 mph on the mound while sitting in the mid-80's, as well. Definite follow in this class with intriguing upside.

+ LHP Bruce Littleton (Vestavia Hills) will be another sophomore to follow over the next few years and debuts inside the Top-20 at No. 19 in this update. Standing 6-foot-2, 200-pounds with broad shoulders and present physicality, Littleton immediately stands out and has shown the stuff to match in a strong summer. In a pair of starts at LakePoint Sports this summer, the southpaw worked up the 85 mph with a quick arm and a quality 69-70 mph breaking ball. He possesses some starter upside with a polished delivery and a frame that will carry more in the future.

+ 3B/RHP Tre Bryant (Orange Beach) raised his stock this summer making a quick impression at the Top Prospect Games where he consistently found firm contact in both his BP round and in gameplay. Debuting at No. 20, Bryant has good balance hitting from the right side with a gap-to-gap approach and numerous low-90 EV's in his round. Profiling as a middle-of-the-order corner infielder, the sophomore has the arm strength (84 mph) to stick at hot corner in the future. Also up to 84 mph on the mound.
