After a busy summer stocked full of events and tournaments, the PBR Alabama Staff has come together over the past few weeks and worked to update and expand the 2022 Alabama Player Rankings. There were many late nights and some tough discussions about players across the state. To see the full rankings, CLICK HERE.

 

TOP 10 BREAKDOWN

+ In this update, we have a new #1 in the 2022 class, as '22 SS/RHP Landon Russell (Russell County, Auburn recruit) jumps from #2 and takes over the top spot after a strong summer. Russell is a legit 2-way guy that has a chance to do both in college. He is an excellent athlete (6.71 60 YD) that possesses a strong arm that will allow him to stick on the left side of the infield. On the mound, the fastball can reach the low-90's with impressive secondary stuff.

+ Making one of the bigger leaps in the Top 10 is '22 LHP Drew Nelson (Pike Liberal Arts, Auburn recruit), who jumps up from #11 to #2 in this update. A former Future Gamer in 2019, Nelson displays some premium pitchability with feel for 3 pitches on the mound. Fastball can work up to 86 mph, but the pitch plays up due to secondary offerings. Breaking ball and changeup are both excellent offerings and are commanded for strikes. Easy, repeatable delivery with a clean arm action.

+ Another former Future Gamer from 2019 in the Top 5, '22 OF Alex Wade (Madison Academy, Auburn recruit) comes in at #3. Listed at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Wade is an excellent athlete that really handles the bat well from the right side of the plate. 6.92 runner that has posted an exit velo of 97 mph at past events. With long limbs that creates great leverage, the Auburn commit still has some more room for strength. Moves well in the outfield with solid arm strength.

+ Making his first appearance in the 2022 Player Rankings after arguably one of the better summers of any player in Alabama, '22 LHP Alton Davis II (Bessemer Academy, Alabama recruit) debuts at #4. Jumped onto the scene at the Top Prospect Games this summer and ran the fastball up to 91 mph, which was good enough to earn a Future Games invite on Team Alabama. He would then go on to "one-up" his prior performance at the event in Atlanta, GA. The 6-foot-4, 180 pound southpaw put on an electric performance, reaching 92 mph while sitting 87-90 with impressive command. Breaking ball and slider are still developing but the projection is through the roof for Davis II. Also a 6.9 runner so the athleticism is present. Committed to Alabama shortly after the Future Games.

+ After bursting onto the recruiting scene last year, '22 RHP Cameron Keshock (Spanish Fort) comes in at #5. At 6-foot-6, approximately 215 pounds, the right-handed hurler possesses an electric fastball that usually plays in the upper-80's and can reach the low-90's with above average command. Breaking ball is very sharp and produces late, hard bite to it. Still has room for a little more velo in that XL frame and quickly became a hot name on the recruiting market before committing to Auburn very recently. 

+ A familiar face that we have grown accustomed to seeing in the Top 10 is '22 RHP Elliott Bray (Hartselle, Auburn recruit) who comes in at #6. Bray shows some premium pitchability and command on the mound. A true feel for 3 pitches and can throw all in any count with confidence. Fastball worked up to 85 mph last year at an event, but certainly has more in the tank. Just gets the job done on the mound and should log some important innings for Hartselle in 2021.

+ One of the more physically imposing arms in the class, '22 RHP Riley Quick (Hewitt-Trussville) comes in at #7 in this update. Listed at around 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Quick possesses an electric fastball that can reach the lower-90's on occasions. The arm works quick and compliments the fastball with a solid breaking ball that has 10/5 break to it. Also a coveted football prospect on the gridiron. 

+ One prospect that has really made a name for himself after a strong performance on the summer circuit is '22 3B/RHP Davis Gillespie (Oak Mountain). A top performer at the Top Prospect Games both at the plate and on the mound. Always seems to find the barrel at the plate and then hopped on the mound and ran the fastball up to 90 mph. Another member of Team Alabama at this year's Future Games, where he put together an impressive week at the plate with multiple hits. Makes a huge leap to #8.

+ Another Future Gamer from this year, '22 C/RHP Tucker Stockman (Athens, Southern Miss recruit) continues to impress at each look. Always has been known for his bat, but the arm has really come on as of late. At the Future Games, Stockman ran his fastball up to 89 mph with 4 quality pitches in his arsenal. Roped a double into the backside gap in his last AB of the Future Games. Chance to do both in college.

+ Rounding out this list is '22 RHP George Meyers (McGill-Toolen, Auburn recruit), who comes in as the 6th primary pitcher in the Top 10. Meyers came to the Preseason All-State event in early January where he impressed on the mound. Ran his fastball up to 87 mph, but has been clocked higher this summer. Listed at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Meyers oozes projection and certainly has not maxed out in terms of velocity. Some significant arm-side action into RHH's.
