Top Tier Roos Tryout Standouts
December 18, 2019
The Top Tier Roos held their 2020 summer tryouts this past weekend at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Florida. The tryout was a three-day event which featured a workout on day one, showcase on day two, and game play on day three. Prospects from the 2021-2024 classes were in attendance, looking for a spot in the Top Tier Roos program. Today, we will take a look at some of the standouts from the Top Tier Roos summer tryouts.
Aidan Miller (2023, JW Mitchell, 3B/RHP)
Natural athleticism is off the charts for the #1 player in Florida in the class of 2023. Strength throughout the frame, especially the lower half. Swing flows through the ball with premium bat speed and leverage. Consistent exit velocities of 95+, reaching 100 with ability to lift. Elite arm strength in the outfield, infield and on the mound, living around 87-88 at all three positions. Can really spin the breaking ball, giving him legit 2-way potential.

Colton Wombles (2023, Russell County, AL, C)
Auburn commit and #2 player in the Alabama class of 2023 rankings showed more than just his premium skillset at a premium position. Getting to be on the field evaluating Wombles for a few days, you see the grittiness, confidence, and competitiveness that makes him elite. Tools-wise, the hand quickness really jumps out at you. He popped consistent 1.8s with a top arm velocity of 77 down to second. Offensively, the strength in the lower half of the stocky frame generates a lot of energy. His elite hands and lower half lead to a lot of flush contact and adjustability.
